a very obvious abuse of power to issue such an order to businesses across the city who are legally allowed to open until 2am

Are they legally allowed to open until 2am or is that what they do because the police usually overlook late opening?

"However, Mrs. Amporn expressed concern about the current legal closing hours ...  The right closing hours should be around 4 a.m., Mrs. Amporn stated. The current legal closing time is midnight, notes TPN media".

Fabulous 103FM says it was to do with underage workers but think they may be just repeating what the police told them. It is talked about at about 1 minute into the video in the middle of the police chief story.

May have been checking the legality of their licences and whether they were received with underhand payments

Sudden removal of Pattaya police chief yesterday.

Obviously related to the suicide(?) of that woman being hunted by the Chinese trafficking gang.

And then?

New acting police boss in "bad mood"/show force or not familiar with the rules in sin city?

Whatever the reason for the sacking was, the "early" closure  is very likely related to that.

Who cares? The nightlife in Pattaya is pretty much dead anyway.

On the contrary Soi Buakao was incredibly busy on Friday night as was LK Metro. Bars and GG Bars were busy to rammed as it was at high season years ago. That was at 10pm +

But they would be checking at city hall not the bars

Seems I fall for fake news/video blogs.

Do you live in Pattaya?

Even in July it was far from dead.

Typo

Its more about police closing no explanation would have thought local govt had some clout

Businesses those working in entertainment thrown under the bus again

Lots have invested in reopening since covid police protect racket looking for a cut

I bet you all the Thai bars on Pattaya Tai between 3rd Rd & the Suk were open until it suited them with bands often playing into the early hours.

I would be most unhappy if I had a condo up there & liked an early night.

So much about "dead anyway".

Not dead, just not back to low season 2019 levels, as some on this forum suggest.

This uncertainty around bar opening times will discourage Tourists from returning

Exactly. I have planned a full month starting on October 31st.
But with bars closing in the "early evening" at midnight, I have to think twice if it isnt better to cancel the trip.

Shame that someone makes vacation plans based upon how long bars are opened for here in Thailand.  So many other things to do and see.  Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, hiking and so mcuh more to do...

Oh the shock, Oh the horror, Oh the temptations.....Guess I need to visit and see how sporting the country is and how Thailand it is so famous for it.  My life must be incomplete....................wait, I snorkel, am PADI certified, and hike in all of the areas we travel to here in the country.  Sort of like I did in the US.

Compared to the Caribbean and my limited Thailand diving ( Pattaya, koh phi phi, Phucket) in Thailand, it rates very low. Been overfished and blown up!  Wild fishing? Nope

I can believe bars would be the goal of some guys.

Some people like to do all you have suggested and have a drink also.

From my own experence in what I have seen. There are a hell of a lot more people drinking in the bars than going on diving trips.
