The Thai police have handed over 12,540,000 baht to families of the victims of the massacre in Nong Bualamphu earlier this month.

The money was donated by police and their families in a special fund called "Kindness of Thai Police" for the victims' families, reported INN.

The fund was set up by RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat following the incident on October 6th.

The account was closed at midnight on Sunday.

A ceremony was held yesterday in front of a large vinyl sign proclaiming the amount. Family members held an individual check.

Families of 34 deceased people, many of them very young children, each received 310,000 baht. Families of the injured received 275,000 (six) 200,000 (one) and 50,000 (three).

Forty four recipients got money in total.

The chief of the Nong Bualamphu provincial police presided at the handover ceremony.

RTP spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong expressed his sorrow on behalf of the force and hoped these donations as well as state and other help would alleviate the suffering of those left behind.

Nowhere in the INN article was it mentioned that a former police sergeant mixed up in drugs was responsible for the massacre.

Probably because it has been mentioned a thousand times already and no one is unaware of the circumstances.  But, go on, p1ss on their bonfire, have a RTP-bash, even though none of them were involved in the tragedy.

good to see every single one of them is wearing a mask......

with regards for the money given, absolute pittance tbf, by the time funerals have been paid for plus loss of earnings for being off work not really sure how much they'll have left?

Funerals were royally sponsored, no cost to the families.

The police not obliged to give any thing and what they gave it was from the good ness of their hearts,

the one who should have stepped in are the several government agencies that are concern with with the welfare and protection of people and children, and we haven't heard anything from them yet...

Knowing where we are just get a niggle about disbursements and the collector of the fund together with the words kindness and police in the same sentence ????Rip

It was a sincere gesture from the donors, all the funeral and associated costs were sponsored by HM the King.

Did you miss the point in your valiant effort to be a w anchor, that the money was given by the police and families. Of course you could give a bit extra then it mightn't be a pittance.

So aggressive.....

Good that the funeral expenses were covered.

Do you think 310K for the death of your child is acceptable? did you contribute anything?

We got the equivalent of 12 million Baht when our son was killed in Iraq in 2005.  I'd gladly give 5x that amount to have him back.

Sorry for your loss.

there's no doubt that any amount of money can make up for the loss of a family member, but to offer such a little amount is an insult to an already horrible time for the families.

Can neither replace nor compensate for a lost child, that surely is not the intention, a very kind and thoughtful gesture, the Thai way, practical support

In our case in the U.S., the local Thai community was exceedingly helpful.

Maybe you feel if 310,000k baht is not enough, what is appropriate?

anything above zero should be appreciative…

why do westerners always like to frame in a western style philosophy? This was not a court awarded amount due to a crime, wrong doing or negligence…

I find this PR stunt sickening...

Why are the Police in charge of disbursing Government compensation/funds?

They seem like the last organization which should be handling money?

"Kindness of Thai Police"????

I salute the Royal Thai Police, if individual police officers chipped into the fund. If it was paid off the budget of the police or some other reptile funds of the government, then please have the politeness and call a turkey a turkey and, in such a case, "Kindness of the Thai Tax Payer".

Blowing its own trumpet again - most likely - as I cannot see it a realistic undertaking to canvas that money from the average Somchai at the intersection .........

Where did it say government compensation?. I read it as police funds and police members contributing.

Good, now with that money found a collective of the victims families, hire a bunch of lawyers and sue the police for negligence, both in civil and penal court.

The police allowed the men into the ranks covering up for his behavior for years and should be held responsible.
