Thai Rath reported that a middle aged woman called Jeda contacted them to tell them a story of woe.

Jeda - who already had a son from a previous relationship - said that she met a man called Rithai who is a contractor dealing in water tanks.

Sweet talking Rithai soon convinced her that he was in love and would marry her.

With this in mind he handed over ten baht weight in gold as an engagement present and the couple lived together as man and wife ahead of their wedding.

During this time Jeda's son got married. Rithai asked if he could wear the gold at the ceremony and expecting no problem with that she agreed.

The gold is worth about 300,000 baht at today's prices.

After the ceremony Rithai said that he had some business to attend to and asked to continue wearing the gold.

He disappeared and could not be contacted.

Eventually another phone number was used and he told her over the phone that he already had a wife in Mukdahan, NE Thailand.

He urged her not to prosecute him because of his family.

Jeda, from Prachinburi, has lost face and is going to the police.

Her claims that there was an agreement to marry and they only moved in together as a prelude to marriage appear aimed at treating the gold as an engagement present, which if so, she is entitled to keep in the event the engagement were to be called off. However, I think she is going to need more than just her word to corroborate her claims that they were engaged to be married. To the extent that the offer of an engagement gift and commitment to marry, induced her to sleep with him and move in with him when he knew from the outset he couldn't keep the commitment because he was already married, then, yes, her claim that she was conned has merit.

Come on.  Be real.  We've heard the same story with the shoe on the other foot a hundred times over.  If AN wrote these "woe and tears" stories about all the foreign guys conned by Thai women, they wouldn't have space for any other posts.

To the woman who was conned:  Did you learn anything?  What's next?  Nigerian romance scams?  Educate yourselves and stop falling for these scams.

:cheesy:     it's usually the farang who get scammed so it's pleasing to see the opposite.

Interesting technique, the guy gets as much sex as he wanted, got his money back then went back to his wife.

I wish the women I have had in my life cost me that little.
