Popular Post snoop1130
PHOTO: Thaipost The coalition Thai Democrat Party has threatened to scrap the Cannabis and Hemp Bill proposed by the coalition partner Bhumjai Thai Party after they said no amendments have been made to the bill. The Democrat party also said they would push to completely make cannabis illegal in Thailand once again by labeling it as a category 5 narcotic if amendments were not made to the bill. Several Democrat members led by Satit Wongnongtoey, Democrat MP for Trang province, said the vetting committee to examine the Cannabis and Hemp Bill ignored all concerns raised by the Democrats, the main government opposition Pheu Thai Party, and medical personnel from Chulalongkorn University. Did you know that the government and parliament have more than 1 person in them? That they don't think the same about everything? 1 party maneged to pass a law that other parties don't agree with. Now it's a game of numbers. How many MPs will vote 1 way and how many the other way. All we can do now is hope that the move to put cannabis on category 5 list will fail.

Sydebolle
This might backfire big time as Somchai's agricultural business is in full swing and produces a real alternative to getting hammered with Laokao. This ganja business is of course in the political interest of the oligarch elite as stoned and hammered electorate is much easier to handle on the perpetual merry-go-round. It will also not generate more members for the Democrat Party which has been absorbed by internal hacks ever since Dr Surin, Dr Supachai and other true politicians left their stage! Popular Post internationalism
nothing is going to stop ongoing and highly popular decriminalisation and recreational use of ganja. Not any law would change it. It's too late to reverse. Democrats, as well as Pheua Thai, had chance to act much earlier, over the last 3 years. Anutin outsmarted them by small steps. They had chance to jump on bandwagon a few months but ignored it. So now they are scared of his popularity and success of bhumjaithai at the coming general elections, to which they will lose many votes. Surely, for democrats and Pheua it's not a principal stance, pure political rivalry. I don't know about medical personel from chula, but I don't think they differ from the general population. More likely they were forced by their rector or governing body to join opposition to ganja. Medical and pharmaceutical lobby do lose some influence if people self-medicate and stop buying drugs 1

I think ganja liberates people to think and act by themselves. Everybody can grow it easily so it's free and independent from the commercialised supplier. Hippies were stoned but at the same time they were pushing for social and political change. And they were successful at times. That's why conservatives and ultra-royalists are by large opposing liberalisation of ganja. They can't control it. In thailand it's more generation gap, with big disadvantage to elders, as they are not much politically vocal outside election times Edited November 3, 2022 by internationalism 5
Popular Post marcusb
I think any future laws regarding cannabis will be as effective as the current helmet law. Its too late, Thais have embraced it. ???? No going back. 3

Bert got kinky
If this is U-turned, will they have to re-arrest the people who had their conviction overturned and expunged and then release them again after the next U-turn?

bobbin
Cheap political position.. Pick a position the Government has adopted and oppose it.. Not a chance in Hades this will pay off for them... Prayuth does not have to call another election for 2 more years.. Germany will have legalized by then. How many more countries are in the process of legalization? 5 more legal states in USA after next month's elections. Anyone enjoying the current situation in Thailand will not vote for them.. Sellers, consumers and those close to them. The "anti" forces are not that numerous to make a difference. Yesterday's position.
JackGats
"Démocrassie" (= democrassy) is how French right-winger Charles Maurras spelled "democracy" at the turn of the last century. Democracies often evolve to be as bad as dictatorships, with the majority depriving minorities of their personal freedoms.

A touch of sarcasm, I live in Pattaya so I am well aware of how many outlets there are, laws are made in Thailand but never enforced. Bearing in mind there could be a few out of pocket if the law is reversed.
