Popular Post outsider Posted November 7, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2022 All these unnecessary deaths caused by drunk drivers, mobile devices-yielding motorists and gun-totting psychopaths should be stopped. But who can stop it? There is no will from any party to enforce the law, beyond the sporadic knee-jerk reactions and some empty vows in response to some random events. Otherwise it's just another day in Thailand. The RTP? They're capable of zilch. Nyet. Nada. The square-root of jack. Us foreigners can't do much beyond the usual ranting in Asean Now. But surely the Thais must be tired of all this happening to their countryfolks? Don't they want to see a stop to this? It could happen to any of their loved ones and when it does, it's already too late. 8 1 4

Please be careful. Look carefully even if your light is green. 13 1

If a driver elects a blood test; then the reading is always higher than a Breathalyzer Machine. Of course, the main reason to do the despicable act of leaving the scene, throws the whole opportunity to analyse the driver into jeopardy. Poor and inaccurate reporting once again! RIP the couple and prayers for the child's recovery. 6

This technology has been available for 25 years and has led to sucessful prosecutions for DUI, leaving some motorists without a licence and hefty fines/jail time. What say the RTP? 3 6

It could happen to any of their loved ones and when it does, it's already too late. Thais don't care about anything enough to do something about it. Total apathy, which is why in many respects Thailand is decades or even centuries behind some other parts of the world. An example: we have power cuts about once a month. Been happening for the 10 years plus I've been in the village and the cuts could last for hours. A close relative of my wife was elected onto the local council, and I suggested that he use his position to ask why it happens and what is being done about it. She won't even ask him to ask, and even he who suffers the cuts does absolutely nothing. Total and complete inertia. You might as well ask the cows in the field to sort it out. It's their culture to do nothing about anything. Complaining is frowned upon in Thailand, which is what helps keep standards so low. 7 1

Nobody in Thailand expects anything positive from those bodies. The police are universally known throughout the country for being utterly useless and often corrupt, and all the army is used for is to attack Thai citizens exercising the right to free speech. It's not only a Thai thing, of course. 4

Not really as the money comes from the same pot. The lines between agencies in Thailand are very grey and one would see that if they got a visit from immigration with a mix of both imigration vehicles and police vehicles. You would also see this when they go and arrest some poor old guy sitting having a coffee with dozens of police and swat maybe even army.

My personal experience was 6 vehicles of immigration and police turn up at my house at 07:30am checking I lived there. Yes both police and immigration police. I also remember the old boy having a coffee when dozens of police arrested him for overstay (I'm not sure if swat was involved). This harden criminal had lost his wife and his mental state confused.... How often do we read about military and police along with immigration police raid a house.....

OK , fair enough, if it has to be dealt with by the military, then they should accept the military killed people and pay 50 million baht up the child in compensation from the military coffers. If not let the normal courts deal with it and give him 10 years plus confiscation of all his assets and half his wages for the next 25 years 1
