Scott
Nancy Pelosi, who has led Democrats in the US House of Representatives for almost two decades, has announced she is standing down from the role. The 82-year-old is the most powerful Democrat in Congress and the first woman to serve as speaker of the House. She will continue to represent her California district in the lower chamber of Congress. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63669581
SunnyinBangrak
I wish her a happy retirement, but I think the BBC is wrong about Hakeem Jeffries taking over as leader. That would not be a logical choice seeing as he is a renowned election denier - something of a hot topic among democrats in recent times. BBC claim "New York congressman Hakeem Jeffries is widely expected to take up the top Democratic leadership post in the House, which would make him the first black congressional leader in US history." Yet from Mr Jeffries own Twitter account he said - which no democrat would put up with someone with an anti-democracy stance like that Edited November 17, 2022 by SunnyinBangrak difficulty embedding a tweet
Popular Post bamnutsak
Congratulations to Speaker Pelosi. She did an AMAZING job leading her caucus effectively as the first female Speaker of the House. Her steady hand guided us through a tumultous time period. Kevin McCarthy, assuming he can herd 218 cats - and many think he won't be able to muster the votes - will have big shoes to fill. Her father was a Congessional Rep., and Mayor of Baltimore. One of my favorite photos of her... Edited November 18, 2022 by bamnutsak 1 1 1

Unlike the 147 Republican House members who voted to reject Biden's victory in the 2020 election? Clearly, whatever Jeffries meant by "legitimate" it's not about the validity of Trump's election victory in 2016. Your repeated attempts to equate Democrats and Republicans in respect to this issue is comical. 6

While you look for them the rest of us can recall how it was Pelosi’s experience that enabled her to out wit (sulking) McCarthy. Pelosi is a very clear example of precisely why experience matters. 1

jerrymahoney
I (JerryMahoney) was always amused that then President Trump referred to then Speaker Ms. Pelosi as "Crazy Nancy" when almost everyone knows that he's a lot crazier than she is. ________________ < As the interview continued, Pelosi gave the response she often gives to the president’s attacks on her, telling Cramer, “Anything the president says is a projection of his own insecurities.” > https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/pelosi-trump-cramer-interview/2020/09/15/4b5fae88-f785-11ea-89e3-4b9efa36dc64_story.html Edited November 18, 2022 by jerrymahoney 1

No limits on their terms... newbies would be open to influence of them on how to "get things done".... as things are now lobbyists have huge input on the writing of bills. Congress members have to spend inordinate portion of time fund raising for re-election. We would need campaign finance reform and restrictions on lobbying if term limits would have a chance of a positive outcome

Instead of banning trading, how about having ALL members of Congress (and immediate family( register all their trades with an independent auditor?
