That requirement would only come into play when the io is considering refused entry due to eg numerous back to back visa exempt entries and looking for additional reason to reject.

It's unlikely to be asked for sure, but most reported instances have been to my recollection when interviewing folks that they for some reason have a 'hard on' about and it's the surprise nail in the coffin used to refuse them.

100% correct. First hand experience here. Lots of of visa waiver entries 5 or so years ago and was refused at Swampy. Phone app showing plenty of dough readily available but the lack of cold hard cash (had at least 15k on my but less than 20) was the nail in the coffin.

Have been travelling 3 times annually to thailand last 15 years. Never been asked ????

  • Another retarded rule seldom applied.

  • Presumably if you left you would have a reentry permit. Zero chance of being asked to show funds. The posts in this thread along lines of " never asked " in 95 years of coming to Thailand ar

20000 wouldn't last a couple of days. Ludicrous.

Arrive looking like this you might get asked.

Any equivalent currency.

BTW think it changed to 10k for single and 20k family.

Visa-free entry has been 10,000 baht for single travellers and 20,000 for families like 'forever', definitely for the past 25 years. Hardly ever asked for.

Not according to many including uj earlier in this thread.

I will advise others based on his advice.

In any event this requirement is only of interest to folk staying often in Thailand and entering visa exempt.

Or if you're doing lots of back-to-back visa exempt entries, as @DrJack54has already mentioned a few times.
