Dozens of Pattaya Bolt drivers arrested for not having public transport driving licenses

Pattaya — Pattaya Traffic Police collaborated with the Chonburi Department of Land Transport to arrest and fine dozens of Bolt drivers who did not have public transport driving licenses to pick up customers.

 

The crackdown on illegal Bolt drivers happened yesterday evening, November 24th, in front of the Central Pattaya shopping mall in Pattaya, Chonburi.

 

 

Traffic police randomly inspected private cars that pulled over at the mall and picked up people.

Kind of makes me wonder if all those 'bib wearing' motorcycle taxis and tuk tuk drivers all have the same license?

Another great example of the continued misuse of law enforcement here. Mostly, it seems they engage in protection rackets. In this case, the taxi mafia. 

 

Are they out finding government officials who are engaged in drug trafficking or sex slavery? No. Why? Because those goons are protected. 

 

Are they patrolling the highways to find reckless drivers? No. Why? Because they do not care one iota about traffic safety. It is all lip service. 

 

The RTP at it's inception seems to have been created with a status quo from the government. We will NOT pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise, and the limit of your income is based solely on your own creativity and initiative, and you will always be protected. Is that not the case? 

 

The RTP are a blight on the nation.

How about a crackdown on ALL drivers who have NO LICENCE !!!!!

This is so blatantly  taxi mafia induced harassment. The B.I.B. should hang there head in shame, except they are incapable of such a feeling.

Some new law invented law again?? Does all taxidrivers/motorcycletaxis have this license?? I know several people who surely don't have it...So a crackdown on everyone would be normal instead of only one selected group.

I have something to add: I would take the official taxis lined up on Second Road, in front of Villa Market to go Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. I would ask them (several times, and different drivers) to use the meters. They all refused and quoted me 300 B. Returning from the hospital, using the taxis booked at the desk located outside the hospital entrance, it would cost 200 B.

Since I've started using the Bolt taxi, the app gives the price up front, and I have found it to be much, much less that what the metered taxis, who refuse to use the meters, charge.

Bolt drivers seem pretty harmless vs the now back on the road jacked up minibus drivers and tuk tuks with their insane driving habits and deafening sound systems. I wonder if they all have a public driving license. If they do ... 50% of them should have them revoked.

Policeman Opens Bolt App on phone and orders a Bolt.

Bolt arrives.

Policeman asks for taxi credentials.

Bolt drive unable to show.

Policeman arrests Bolt driver.

 

Just like taking candy off a kiddie.

Every police force in the world has traffic police and police that deal in larger crime.

 

It seems that you want to make Thailand like California, where no law is enforced if it is minor.

 

Do you really think that if they let people drive without a license or shoplift in stores things will be better and the police officers that are not doing traffic stops will be good police officers for investigating major crimes?

 

Police officers in every country and city start in the same lace walking a beat and looking after the community.  Checking driver's licence and arresting drunk drivers or people that do minor <deleted>.

 

Imagine if there wre not beat cops what it would be like.

Don't forget these guys with no licence also have o meter therefore they are ripping tourists off., and if there is no way to identify the car anything can happen.

Always thought laws are there to control something. No one remembers Uber in Thailand i guess. If taxis are allowed to run without licenses i imagine people would cry about unlicensed taxis. Always complaining.

How about a crackdown on Baht Bus drivers stopping illegally wherever they like and driving dangerously? If you get one point on your licence for each instance of dangerous driving, then the average Baht Bus driver will lose his licence in a single day, lol. Actually, probably in the morning already.

The police are actually applying the law, so I guess you're in shock over that. Because can you name me any country that allows unlicensed drivers to transport paying passengers in unregistered vehicles?

Bolt is an international well-run outfit.  I can't imagine them hiring drivers without the proper licenses.

Would some kind person tell me what a Bolt driver is? We have never heard of this in Hua Hin. I assume it either has:

Something to do with owning a crossbow

A new PC or woke word that has not made it beyond Pataya

Something to do with running away

Each drier is related to the famous Jamacian sprinter Usain Bolt.

Very easy, bolt driver do the same criteria what need for carrying passenger who pay for it! Some of you guys cry about taxi mafia and expensive fares, Sometimes bolt is cheaper than a regular taxi sometimes not but only can be fair competition if all of them do the same requirements
