Checkup Packages 60+ (liver, sugar, testosterone)

Featured Replies

It's been awhile since I've had comprehensive labwork done.

Which tests do I need for the following:

Liver. Check drinking too much

Fatty liver. Is fatty liver ultrasound or?

Diabetes. Just blood sugar?

Prostate cancer. Is this just PSA?

Testosterone. I think a few tests are needed? I'm certain this is outside any package. Can good clinics reliably do this?

Thank you

Where are you?

If in Pattaya go to Lifecare lab and do the 700 baht package (4?) that's good for starters

Bangkok

I usually go for a package at Rama 9 hospital or St Louis depending on price

IME a full workup at Mengrai Labs in Chiang Rai is 2400 baht.

IIRC I was diagnosed with fatty liver based on blood testing alone.

I suggest a PM to Sheryl for an explanation of what tests you need to address your concerns.

Ultrasound is probably the best check for a fatty liver although alcohol is not always the cause. Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease (NAFLD)  is caused by obesity and poor diet, another surprising cause is artificial sweeteners.

Liver enzymes (ALT, AST)

Hb1Ac (better than fasting blood sugar)

Ultrasound upper abdomen

PSA

Manual prostste exsm (DRE)

Lipid panel (HFl, LDK, triglycerides)

BUN and creatnine

C reactive protein

Complete blood count

I would slso recommend an exercise stress test if you have not had one in past few years

Why would someone need a stress test? if someone was fit and exercising a lot and know their heart rate, blood pressure and all good they wouldn't need one?

i do a quasi stress test cycling up steep hills every other day

Even people who are fit and exercise a lot (which we have no idea is true of OP) can get heart disease.

Your cycling is not a "stress test" -- you are not hooked up to an EKG.

A periodic (i.e. every 3-5 years) EST is very advisable for men over 45-50 years of age and women past menopause. They are not very expensive.

Can spot potential problems well before symptoms appear.

I'm not exactly fit (soft not fat) although I do walk a few km daily and holidays involve exercise. I should probably do a proper stress test.

I didn't see any tests about testosterone. Is this free and bound?

If I test low is there doctor (s) in Bangkok you can recommend for analysis, medicine? Can I take pills? I'd really not like to self administer injections. Do I need to follow up with doctors a lot? This sounds expensive. Is there a BKK clinic or hospital that specializes? Thailand not epic for knowledgeable physicians.

Many thanks

This clinic specializes in it  http://www.maximumclinic.com/about-us-maximum-performance-wellness-center/our-process-low-testosterone-therapy/

Can do the lab there as well

Oral testosterone is not advisable. Injection or topical (injection better)

It is normal for testosterone levels to decline with age and not necessary to diagnose or treat unless you are bothered by symptoms

Actually the recommended test now is Fibroscan. Takes 10 minutes and not expensive.

Never heard of it so I did a Google search into Transient Elastography. As an oil and gas man, I find it very interesting to see shear-wave analysis in the health industry.

For who is it being recommended and by whom?

I used to do the cardio stress test as part of the annual checkup at Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital when I was in my 40's. Never any drama.

Six months ago, I had to do one for a Malaysian Offshore and Remote Onshore Medical Cert. Having not done one for over 20 years, I was a bit nervous but after about nine minutes on the treadmill, the attending cardiologist ended the test saying I had surpassed expectations at around the six minute mark and everything was still tickety-boo. Quite stressless too.
