Filthy sewage going into the sea in Jomtien - it's been happening for THREE YEARS!

INN reported from Jomtien bach down Pattaya way on Thailand's eastern seaboard.

 

Black sewage was seeping into the sea and it had been going on for so long that the locals had got used to it.

 

Three years in fact, while their complaints had fallen on deaf ears.

 

This latest mess was initially reported on Facebook in a post that said the sea had turned black and stinky.

 

It was in Moo 1 of Sattahip in the area of Soi 8.

 

Local officials had been on the scene to stick a plaster on the mess.

 

There was no long term solution.

 

Locals who have been complaining about it for three years are used to it by now.

 

And resigned to the mess that is Pattaya.

Used to be a small stream of sewage at the North end of Pattaya Beach for years and years, that seemed to originate from up North Rd and a pipe near that corner, close to the Dusit.

Saw this very same "black bilge water" dumping into the sea on Koh Samet about 7 years ago. Fortunately, we were up current, on the beach, as far as possible from the sewage dump. ????

It costs the tourist to sit on the beach - the sewage is free!

Add proper sanitary landfills to POTWs and thailand might transition from third world to developing world…

There used to be a sewage treatment plant on soi bua khao it didn't last last long, probably no maintenance, the city hospital and carpark now cover the site.

This is absolutely disturbing and disgusting Thailand , Your destroying the environment not to mention eating seafood from the same waters and swimming in it !!??? 
You need to step up on the Global Environmental Stage to fix this or Thailand’s Paradise future will be gone faster then you think !!!

It's amazing that the locals have actually become accustomed to seeing black sewage seeping into the sea. And who needs a long term solution anyway, when a quick plaster fix will do the trick? Clearly, the town of Pattaya is just oozing with charm and appeal. I guess when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade... or in this case, when life gives you sewage, you just learn to love it!

Many years ago a wastewater officer was asked by a TV reporter, when and how long the wastewater plant would run - as the rotating drizzle arms (one of the last processes in water treatment) were standing still. 

The bloke answered honestly, that these rotating arms would only rotate when high VIPs would be arriving such as the PM (at the time, it was Anand Panyarachoon) but once he's gone, they would switch off the system until the next bigwig would show up. 

While this is 30 years ago, I am pretty sure that not much has changed ever since; except the TV screens which got flatter in the meantime ????

They will certainly see there paradise become a over polluted paradise , It will change when more people get sick and it effects Tourism. Remember there is such things as waterborne diseases Typhoid, Polio , Malaria , Dengue Fever that people can contract Thailand !! Where’s The Health Ministry !! ?? Counting Brown envelopes ????

I have not visited a Thai beach in almost two decades.  If I someday decide I would like to go to the beach then I will go to Hawaii.  I have lived in Thailand for more than thirty years, but far from the beach, or Bangkok, and have no desire to visit either.

This is not true, Thailand is not a 2nd world nation. The term "2nd world" is no longer commonly used and referred to countries that were aligned with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Thailand, on the other hand, is considered as a developing country

The one thing that Pattaya council and the Tourism Authority don't want is for sarcastic tourists and residents to spread these stories abroad and damaging the industry. 

Whatever you do, don't tell your friends and relatives about this filth in the ocean as someone is bound to sue for defamation.

You left out hepatitis - very serious and common in polluted waters, from shellfish.

I have been living in Pattaya for more than 20 years. I never went into this dirty water here. Not 1 time. And in Jomtien you have longer pipes going into the sea. They contain no drinking water... All the many people sitting on the beach. Where do they go to the toilet? And this not just to pee ????????????
