Tourists have had to leave Samui Island by plane as boats are being banned from leaving ports.

Yesterday, (December 19th), the order restricting boats is to remain in effect with no new announcements. There are strong waves of up to four meters in the open sea in the Gulf of Thailand near Samui Island, Pha Ngan Island and Tao Island.

Thais and foreigners on Samui Island have had to change their plans by leaving Samui Island via Bangkok Airways at the Samui International Airport instead of by ferry.

After the inexplicable sinking of a navy ship last week it would be embarrassing to the Navy if the ferries ran on time without incident ????

Excellent PR for tourism; Makro and others will be having a supply problem which will send prices ..... maybe Prayuth should call his red brethren in the North and enquire about those three sub-marines; they would come in handy now. The supplies of amber liquid and local firewater will be exhausted sooner than anyone thinks, me thinks ..........

The seas are calmer today, and the ferries are running again. Now, the entire system is completely backed up and two days behind, at peak season. They could have run yesterday, but it appears the local mayor over reacted. Timidity.

I understood that all flights BKK-USM-BKK were fully booked until after the New Year. So how these tourists are going to find seats I don't know. Unless BKK Air lays on extra flights.

I have a friend flying to Thailand today, but he has to stay two days in BKK due to all Samui flights being full. Seat booked for Friday.

i have noticed shortages of many goods in all the supermarkets recently. Either due to logistic problems or just being snapped up by all the tourists here for the Christmas holidays.

Maybe this will make people think more about why Bangkok air is the only way by air to Samui. It's ridiculous. Also a rip off!
