Anutin Downplays Covid Regulations for Chinese Visitors

BANGKOK (NNT) - Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul has downplayed the need for special arrival regulations for Chinese tourists, stating that a sudden influx of Chinese visitors is anticipated to be gradual.

 

Anutin stated that, as the Chinese government continues to impose travel restrictions, including RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 for both inbound and outbound travelers, all Chinese tourists arriving in Thailand will have been tested and cleared of Covid infection.

 

Minister Anutin noted, however, that officials from the Department of Disease Control, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Transport, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand have convened daily meetings to discuss appropriate tourism and health measures in preparation for an influx of international tourists to the country.

 

Anutin stated that the majority of Chinese travelers have either received at least three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or have developed Covid-19-specific antibodies. This group of travelers would only be required to comply with measures applicable to all arrivals, such as purchasing health insurance.

 

Officials in Thailand have also discussed a plan to offer AstraZeneca vaccines to Chinese tourists for a small fee and on a voluntary basis.

 

Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said this week that he expected Chinese tourists to begin arriving on January 5 and that approximately 300,000 would arrive in the first quarter of next year, which would benefit the tourism industry during the low season. The authority has increased its arrival target for the upcoming year from 20 million to 25 million, but the anticipated revenue from tourism remains unchanged at 2.4 trillion baht.

as several countries around the world take measures as covid proof or test,Thailand will do nothing just to get the tourists back.. But what if several infected come and the infectiongrade is going up... Lockdowns again?? That will damage the country more than ask for vaccinationcertificates and/ or tests for the Chinese arrivals

Way too much fear in this thread.

 

Think logical people. Only a handful of countries are putting restrictions on Chinese travellers, and these aren't likely to last longer than a few weeks.

 

Most countries won't put any restrictions on. Why not you ask? 
 

From a health standpoint there's no valid reason to restrict Chinese travel.

• The Covid-19 variants circulating in China are already circulating in the EU
• Potential imported infections from China are "rather low" compared to the number of infections already occurring in the EU
• And citizens in the bloc have relatively high vaccination and immunisation

Contradictions in the above statements. How can a "sudden influx" be "gradual"? Low season does not start properly until May so 5th month (not first quarter) anyhow.

 

About 3,000 Chinese arrivals per day into where? Chiang Mai, Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and Phuket? Where else? After one to two weeks will they be leaving?

Money before health of the nation yet again, wouldn't be long before Thailand is in the same boat as it was in 2021, with a full lock down,

Read yesterday that 2.5 million a day are testing positive in China, 

And that's a laugh, saying the Chinese can get vaccinated in Thailand, The Hospitals in Thailand are already reporting they haven't enough vaccine for Thai people...

I think that governments around the world are saying that lockdowns aren't an effective way to treat covid plus they are an economic catastrophe so I don't think that's going to happen. I can see the hospital system being overwhelmed but since all Chinese tourists will be required to buy insurance, even this aspect has a silver lining. The real downside is the impact on locals who would otherwise not have caught covid and who may not be able to be treated as quickly.

The Chinese themselves have admitted their SARS based vaccines are useless against covid so having had three sinovac jabs or whatever else they peddle is useless.

Sinovac vaccines from China were the only game in town in February 2021 at a time when no other vaccines were available in Thailand. It wasn't great but there is no question it saved some lives, let's not knock Chinese covid vaccines too harshly.

For the initial (Sinovac) jab, I was refused, (foreigner), then it was administered July 2021 when I was admitted to the main provincial hospital for an operation. I had my second jab there in November, took two attempts (we have no records so wait and see what is available at the end of the session). They could not provide any paperwork to certify the vaccination  because as I understand it the "ad hoc" nature of the initial vaccination meant they had no record. No paperwork no booster. The provincial hospital says it is up to the local hospital, they say that they can not do it without the paperwork. Bureaucratic impasse.

once again we see them making money more important than the lives of thais, in china covid has been spreading very quickly recently and around the world countries are making any chnese tourists have covid tests on arrival but this idiot is ignoring the facts because money is more important than lives. We are seeing the chunese once again spreading covid around the world and of course china saying testing chinese tourists shoulfd not happen, anyone else think that now the world is finally getting over covid china wants to bring it back once again for their benefit

I would try another hospital but don't mention the previous sinovac doses. You'll be given an mRNA or astrazenecca vaccine as I believe they've stopped using sinovac.

the fact that China wanted to proceed/apply a Zero Covid policy meant the virus didn't circulate between their population thus very restricted quantity of variants and also they didn't detected many infections, now they let/allow the population to circulate within China the quantity of infections is skyrocketing within China, now let's just imagine what it would happen to the outside China world when they start to travel internationally, the infections will jump back to the beginning of the epidemic end of 2019 and we all be at risk unless China decides to start using Western made vaccines, which so far, they keep declining, to day at lunch time there was well known doctor explaining that the Chinese vaccines are non performing or not as good as  Western ones, he got Chinese vaccines provided by government of Mongolia, tested and compare them to the Astra Zeneca and said the results are clear and not advising anybody to use the Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines or any other vaccines from China
