Looking For A Decent Club To Take My Family

I would like to take my family ( wife and 2 sons, ages 15 years and 11 years ) to a decent club in Bangkok.

My purppse is that I would like to educate my kids about the clubs, behaviour and ettiqutes. I would like my kids to have a feel of this side of life too.

Instead of leaving them to experiment on their own, and chance of making mistakes. I would like to take them with me for their first time, and show them the atmosphere / ambience. And if they feel like dancing, sure, I would accompany them on the floor. I feel that a father can be a better teacher for kids rather than some other non-related person.

In Dubai and Singapore, I checked-out but they do not allow entry of less than 18 years old kids, even if accompanied by their parents.

Any advise about any decent club in BKK where one can go with kids ?

Apart from the obvious ethical point of view of taking an eleven year old into an adult environment, could you imagine what the other patrons of a club would feel seeing a pre-teen roaming around? Not at all comfortable.

Be considerate!

I agree with Soundman, and anyway, very unlikely they would let the whole family in. I have one suggestion, you might phone the Bed Supperclub, as they have two separate sections, the supperclub and the disco. You might be able to go there early with the kids and eat, and then, sort of hang around later?

With Soundman on this too. Surley half the fun of growing up is experienceing your first club/bar/nightlife.

Yes but at eleven years old?

I can understand 16y.o. trying to sneak into a club for their first time & taking the initiative to invent ways to get past the door staff. I can understand a father wanting to school his children in the ways of the world. I have no problem with either.

In life there is an appropriate age for most things. & learning clubs at eleven is not appropriate. However, I do commend the OP for his attitude in showing his children about certain elements of life, explaining why they are there, hopefully explaining the rights & wrongs & repercussions of one's actions.

I believe it to be a terrible tradgedy when parents sweep social taboo's under the carpet & hope they are forgotten about. Teenagers will find them, & if banned by the parents will be 100% more likely to try them out, including all the real nasties.

I agree. There is no need whatsoever to learn about nightclub etiquette at their ages. Why not take them to a restaurant/bar with entertainment more appropriate to their ages. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure you want your kids to see a lot of the crap that goes on in nightclubs!

Are you sure your 15 yr old son wants to be at a club accompanied by his Dad on the dance floor? :o

Really, I'd just leave them to it, eventually they will find clubs in their own time, eventually they'll make mistakes, eventually they'll learn from them. When they got wings let them fly.

I cant think of any family oriented nightclubs on earth let alone in Thailand. They all have a minimum age for a reason. Its adult entertainment.

Even if there was one that allowed it (the local youth club?) and it was not your 11 tear old kid but your 15 year old, in the West can you imagine how embarrassed they'd be dancing with Dad at the disco... street cred gone. Reminds me of a fast show sketch. "Hey that's got a good beat!" don't do it to them.

But sample the night life in Bangkok? Come on, you have got to be kidding.

I can see the plus points in talking about all this but surely all that can be covered with an open and frank conversation. Here you go I'll start you off "Night clubs are all about getting people laid, dancing and drinking are secondary or used to help meet the first objective".

Really, what on earth do you hope to teach or point out to your kids at an actual nightclub that can not be explained to them?

I was in a beer bar once and saw a dad and his 14-15 year old son walk out with two, um, companions.............didn't think much of that and neither did any of the other patrons and as yet unaccompanied, um, companions.

But I think the OP has other goals in mind and might I suggest the family patronize Ad Makers on Soi Langsuan. Its a restaraunt/nightclub; have never seen um, companions for hire, there. Have great music and okay food and at least its a start on their education.

some points...as I can understand from perspective of OP, but also from the others who have responded.

I took my cousin to a club...she was 17 at the time....more the age when they start to get curious.....so I took her..but I took her with HER friends...so she had people her own age....plus Im not all that much older than her.......

she wouldnt be TOO embarrassed to be seen with me as her 'chaperone' shall we say :o

that might be something for you to consider

also in Aus for instance there are discos that cater for younger people.(done as a special event I think)..ie. no booze...only music and dancing...I dont think this exist in thailand

Ive seen younger children join parents at dinner in pubs, but mind you...pubs...not clubs. these could be the english/irish pubs around town......then someone mentioned Ad Maker which is basically a restuarant with live music. another could be Tawan Daeng on Rama 3, and lots of others like that.....

but I think it all depends which particular aspect of night life you want to educate them about? is it about drinking?

but again...dont forget that especially for the 11 year old....this could backfire....as it might not be something he/she has started to think about yet.......

good luck :D

I don't think there are any clubs in Bangkok that are going to let in under age farang. Me and most of my farang friends are in our 20s and early 30s and all of us have stories about being denied entrance from Thai clubs because of lack of ID. Clubs in RCA, Ratchada, Thonglor, and Ekkamai all won't let me in without an ID. A restaurant with live music like Tawan Deang or something might allow it if they're with their parents, but I can't recall ever seeing Thai parents with their children in a place like that. Really they should just stay home and play Nintendo or read a book until they're older.
