Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg has been detained by police at a protest outside a western German village.

She had been protesting with activists seeking to stop the abandoned village of Lützerath from being demolished for the expansion of a coal mine.

Police told the BBC Ms Thunberg was not arrested and would be released after they checked her ID.

She is ignorant and misguided, as most fanatics are. As punishment she should be forced to learn about how EVs are made from scratch. Maybe a visit to one of those dreadful mines in the Congo where kids are working for peanuts in hazardous conditions?

Maybe you should visit a few of the major oil spills, first.

By train probably. Why do you care?

Wow the hate is real, Greta has done more than any of us to help change politicians and policy makers perspectives and attitude to a more sustainable future. I applaud her for that. Even though I don't always agree with some of her actions such as this one.

It was a staged event.  She was smiling while the Polizei was carrying her to the bus.  They then stopped to pose for the cameras and she then did a thumbs up while in the bus.  She looks more and more like someone who is interested in the “Kardashian” syndrome:  Being famous for being famous without any accomplishment(s).

Greta is actually suing the Swedish government for not doing enough to protect the environment. The woman has more grit than anyone on ASEAN Now and is no one's mouthpiece. Her smile while being detained says "You fell into my trap and put this local protest in a global spotlight". I look forward to the day she becomes Swedish PM.

So you think she has accomplished nothing?  That is a pretty ill-informed statement.   At 16 she sailed from Europe to New York in a zero carbon emitting sailboat.

Greta Thunberg was 'TIME' magazine's youngest person of the year.

Greta Thunberg was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize... more than once.

Greta Thunberg founded Fridays for Future.

There are many more things to add to the list, but I wouldn't want to overburden you with too many facts.

I know pretty much zero about this girl.

If she is suing a govt there will be enormous costs which must be borne.

Then whatever the outcome there will be a plethora of appeal avenues, ringing up the govt till at tax-payers expense.

Who is holding her purse strings?????????

I am pretty sure that she isn't overly thrilled by child slavery either - do you have evidence that she supports it?

What she managed to do is get lots of people talking about it. If she hadn't turned up and hadn't been arrested, it wouldn't be news and we wouldn't be discussing it. She amplifies the cause immensely, and she excels at it.

Perhaps not "nothing"- she certainly generated a lot of publicity. Did she accomplish anything though? I suspect her rant at the UN will amount to zero in reality.

If electric cars do take over from oil powered it will happen for reasons other than her, if alternate energy becomes the norm it will be for reasons other than her. Such will happen because there is profit to be made, not because of an angry girl, despite her being beloved of the woke.

Fantastic.

She sailed a boat.

She was youngest person of the year for Time. (Haven't read Time since I last went to a dentists waiting room.)

Nominated more than once for Nobel Peace Prize, but no cigar.

Founded Fridays for Future (do they have Happy Hours?)

Sounds like she is being bankrolled big time and having the puppet strings pulled.

When is she coming here to sort our pollution/garbage disposal issues?????????

Deflection. I didn't mention her in my reply to Credo.

Also, she is cuter than Al Gore or John Kerry(AKA-The Climate Czar? Allegedly.).  I thought she would be invited to Davis?  Of course on a private jet and a luxury hotel paid by someone else.  But I guess not.

LOL. The protests at the mine were international news long before she turned up. Al Jazeera had it on every news bulletin I watched.

Some interesting information about that.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/greta-thunberg-s-yacht-trip-to-new-york-not-as-green-as-it-may-seem-6fsn5sbpz

Greta Thunberg’s decision to cross the Atlantic in a “zero-carbon yacht” may generate more emissions than it saves because of flights taken by the crew.

Talking about it is great. But, Thailand excels at talking about corruption yet nobody, right from the boss man down does anything.????????

Nobody that respects human/child rights says that. Unfortunately its a problem not only in Congo mining but also in the oil industry outside of congo, not to mention clothing, shoes, carpets. Look it up. If you read the full link that was provided apart from the selected quote you can see what the EV car industry is trying to do about it.
