Food drama! Unfinished pork found stuffed in soup kettle - Moo Katha owner speaks of "heartache"

Daily News Thai Caption: Unfinished food found hidden

 

Daily News reported on the latest drama concerning food in Thailand that was being commented upon widely.

 

It concerned a post and video clip from a Moo Katha restaurant in Rayong, eastern Thailand.

 

Moo Katha is a kind of "all you can eat" pork restaurant where you cook your own food at the table. But there are financial sanctions against diners who don't finish their food.

 

The video showed a soup kettle at a table being tipped out onto a tray. Inside it was stuffed with uneaten pork and pressed crab sticks. 

 

The owner said: "Dear customers, please don't hurt us lady traders. Pork is expensive right now - just take what you need".

 

It concluded with a hashtag that translates as #severeheartache.

 

Comment was rife with several people recommending that the restaurant install CCTV to catch diners who take too much food.

don't let anyone leave until every table has been thoroughly searched!!!!   water in their glass, 1000 baht fine.  pork not eaten, 10,000 baht fine per slice.   sauce left on a plate, 500 baht fine.   10 cameras per table, police outside if they can't pay their fine.

 

And people wonder why 1000000000 restaurants close in Thailand every minute.

It's an all you can eat venue, not an all you can take and throw away.

In my country, there are a few buffets with similar, pay if you leave leftover type of system.

 

Popular with Asian operators (even though the food may not be asian)

 

When enforced its usually a very aggressive standoff between the staff and customer, usually both  party's aggressively nit picking on the definition of a left over, 

 

Ruins the experience for me, however wasting food is one of my pet hates, it's digusting

Now I understand why they have these bright LED lights all over the place, as if you are eating in a hospital surgery room, they need to watch us lol.

On that note a few years ago my Thai friends took me to an all you can eat venue with one of his mates.

He was a six-foot string bean, 50 kg soaking wet but boy could he eat.. mostly the chicken drumsticks & wings.. he could clear the buffet table on his own.

He had actually been banned from the very local shops as they couldn't keep up with him.

A lot of these places they put time limits on how long you can eat, like 90 minutes or so.

Wanted to do a sushi all you can eat 1499 baht pp 2 hours in asoke but when we showed up at 7pm no customers.  I would never eat at all you can eat sushi place unless it's packed 6 nights a week and skip Mondays if you like fresh fish.

Personally I can't stand those places.   It's a lot of work cooking your own food that's probably just a little over jail quality.

 

I think it's more of a Thai thing being more social than quality.

At least in Jail someone else has to cook it !
