Achayon said it was that time of the year when people of Chinese descent in Thailand spend time with their families and travel and it was important that the Thai police ensured their safety. Chinese New Year was not the time to take bribes. Regarding accepting packaged "gifts" known as "Ang Pao" at Chinese New Year he said that individual police need to check National Anti-Corruption Commission guidelines. Crackdowns on drugs resulted in more than 69,000 cases and the arrest of more than 68,000 people. He knows that, the police know that and everyone else in Thailand knows that too. But he's done his job - without doing anything at all. 1 2
