Siam Rath reported on a devastating fire that broke out in the center of a resort on rooms floating on the Khwae Noi River in Kanchanaburi, western Thailand, yesterday afternoon.

The resort was not named, the media in standard reporting just said it was well-known.

It happened at a bend in the river and access was difficult.

Tourists reportedly fled for their lives but there were no reports of death or injury.

It was lucky that it was during the day; if it happened at night death and injury would have resulted for sure, said Siam Rath.

First reports of the fire that started near a swimming pool and spread out from there reached Pol Capt Kasan Phara of the Sai Yok police from 199 at 3.44 pm.

Fire services from several areas including the Thai military raced to the scene in Ban Kaeng Pralorm.

The fire was whipped up by strong winds and fueled by the fact that the rooms were made largely of wood with inflammable furniture.

Firefighters had to try to douse the flames from a distance due to access difficulties.

A fire-break was made at rooms #15 and #16 and it was eventually brought under control at 5.30 pm and was completely out at 6.30 pm almost three hours after it began.

An investigation into the fire and damage assessment is now underway.

Yes, Hellfire Pass is within the Sai Yok National Park, and the resort in question (Sai Yok Mantra Resort) is a few kilometres to the north west.   https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sai+Yok+Mantra+Resort/@14.3509544,98.9216438,12.35z/data=!4m9!3m8!1s0x30e46972246111e3:0xd40d509829d88723!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d14.379983!4d98.8895879!16s%2Fg%2F11jg4kntp3
