Rant against experts

My new bank card sent from my German bank on the 5th December hadn't arrived so after waiting 5 weeks I informed my bank who cancelled the card and sent me a new one on the 9th of January which still hasn't arrived, this means I can't transfer my pension to my Thai account via Transferwise. I emailed Wise to ask if there was a method I could use without the card. I was assured that I could use the 'SORFORT' app that I normally use, I tried this but since I couldn't supply a TAN number (a card is required to get the TAN number from my bank) it timed out. Again I asked 'Wise' for help, I was told there were many ways of using 'SOFORT' without the TAN number but when I asked for details about this I was told that 'SORFORT' wasn't under their control...I was being fed BS.

I decided then to do a bank to bank transfer, my German bank emailed me a PDF form to fill out which I was to sign and digitize it then send it to them electronically. There were a few things on the form that I wasn't sure of so I went to my Thai bank and asked for a print out form of the necessary info concerning a bank transfer, this they gave me. There were a few things on the form that confused me so I went to the 'Business Desk' which dealt with transfers and asked for help. The man looked at the info and seemed puzzled himself so he sent me to the lady who had given me the form, after a few minutes she sent for the manager. For the three questions that I asked him he just shrugged and said I don't know.."Hmm, never seen that number before, look it up on the internet."

I asked my German bank via the help line concerning their own form, "What does reference of the account holder mean"...."I'm not too sure about international transfers, I don't know, just fill out the form and send it to us."

My point is that one would think that banks are experts of the first order, so what about 'experts' in other fields, Passport authorities, Insurance companies, Doctors, Police, Lawyers, Tax authorities, Politicians etc. After reading about all the cock ups of so called experts in the papers, both here and in the West, I have come to the conclusion they are all winging it...there are no experts.

An expert is some who has made a lot of mistakes,  but has learnt from them.

There are many people,  who think they are experts.

For me it seems banks and other companies employ mostly people who are just about smart enough and educated enough to do their job, most of the time.

If a bank employee's work is 95% within that country and he can do that, then he is good enough for that job. Maybe he knows a little more and maybe he is also able to transfer money to a neighbor country. But something exotic like Thailand, which is not even 0.1% of his possible work, is not important for him and it seems not important for most banks.

In your case I suggest get an online login for your German bank. Maybe a website or an app. And then use that to transfer money internationally.

I arranged something like that from a German bank while I was in Thailand. Then I could easily transfer money from a German bank account to wherever I wanted.

This is used when paying an invoice. The payee puts the invoice number or reference number here. This number is transmitted with the payment so the recipient can match the incoming payment to the amount owed to them.

This is normally used by businesses, not transfers between individuals.

You card(s) should have been sent via DHL, FedEx, etc.....  If sent via normal International 'snail mail' then there's a 0.0001% chance you would receive it.

I don't have any choice in the matter, in fact it is possible that the bank itself doesn't lay hands on the card, they could just be ordered from where they are made and sent from there, I doubt that they would send an employee to the post office to get DHL to send it. The envelopes are franked in the office with  pp priority. Strangely enough birthday greetings from the bank get to me on time. 5 years ago the bank had to send off 3 cards because they never arrived after weeks and then one day 3 separate envelopes each with a bank card arrived on the same day although they had been sent weeks apart. I can't order another one because the German post are on strike. My card will arrive...but when?

Something the bank employee should have known. Thanks for that.

Why you not have done a Bank to Bank transfer to your Wise account?

This stil would probably be faster than the Bank to Bank direct to your Thai bank

Sorry if I misunderstand, and you already have done this...

I made a bank to bank transfer from an Australian bank to a Thai bank today, it took about an hour, max.

The Australian bank will not send a card overseas or use an overseas number for sms.

I transferred money from my Australian bank to a Thai bank 5 days ago and it has not arrived yet it normally only takes 1or2 days max

I use WISE merely to transfer money from Germany to Thailand so I don't have an account as such although I could arrange it I suppose, I will PM you after coffee.

I could do this (my bank said 4 days max) but you get a lousy exchange rate and everyone gets a piece of the pie, your home bank, the clearing bank in Bangkok and your Thai bank but above all I just know the minute I initiate such a transfer my bank card will arrive by post.

So how much of the transfer was missing after everyone took their fees and how bad was the exchange rate?

My bank used to send birthday greetings but  since about 5 years this stopped, they used to send all sorts of unimportant stuff by post and it always reached me but bank cards were a different story, the important stuff takes like forever. I only communicate with my bank by email (computer) and never do transactions by smart phone. I must have got on their nerves with my constant emails to their help line so they rang me up advising me to wait for the post instead of doing bank to bank transfer although they did send me the PDF form through their website which I was to print out, fill out with signature then digitize and send it via their website postbox, this is still an option and if I use it I just know that on that day my bank card will arrive by post, Murphy's law.

There are  no online experts.  The problem with online is that you are talking to an expert making just above minimum wage.

There expert training involve.

Here is the switch to turn on your computer and screen.

Here is your headset.

When customer calls enter their question on the this program that you bring up.

The program will give you options based on their answer just click the closest to what they want.

If you reach a point where the program can not come up with an answer tell the person that you will forward their issue to the proper section or transfer them to the person next to you.

Take the next call.

I worked for an international phone company and used to get the irate customers.  That just talked to Sam who told them that is was warm and sunny in NYC in the middle January in a snow storm.
