Siam Rath reported on a fire in a chapel at Wat Phae Luang in Lampang in the north of Thailand.

At 7pm yesterday evening Thoen police and municapal services were told about the blaze in the Wiharn Luang.

Locals managed to extinguish the blaze themselves within 45 minutes and the fire had not spread to adjoining buildings.

Restoration work on the 176 year old temple had been underway when the fire started in a central area.

The chapel was surrounded by bamboo scaffolding.

Considerable damage was done to the roof and the inside was unsafe as yet to enter.

A press photographer at the scene was injured and taken to hospital after stepping on a nail in a fallen rafter.

I guess the workers will have to restore a bit more now.
