NEW YORK (AP) — That the death of Tyre Nichols — young, Black, just trying to get home — came at the hands of Memphis police officers was a familiar refrain in the nation’s seemingly endless lamentation of racism and police brutality aimed at Black people.

 

This time around, though, it was five Black officers who were fired and charged with second-degree murder in the horrifying Jan. 7 beating that was caught on video and led to Nichols’ death in a hospital bed three days later.

 

But the fact that Black officers killed a Black man didn’t remove racism from the situation.

Well that is an interesting point the author makes. I wonder if there is any real life statistics that prove that "certain groups are more prone to criminal behavior than others" or if as the author suggests it's all about racism not reality?

 

 This narrative blaming racism for 5 black cops killing a black guy resisting arrest is IMO pure grift, and is ridiculous to the point of being satirical. If you turn the situation around and have 5 white cops offing a white guy resisting arrest and then literally blame it on "'cuz black people" then you can see how racist and silly the argument is.

Good thing you're not bigoted. Because if you were, you would say something like the Tyre Nichols was "black guy resisting arrest" when in fact, he wasn't.

There is a LOT of money to be made in the grievance industry, and a lot of sticky hands eager to get some.  These days, you can see the usual cast of characters like Al Sharpton and Ben Crump stampeding towards the cameras on a daily basis.  God forbid you get in their way, you are gonna get trampled.

 

Until I see any actual evidence of racism in this case, other than mindless speculation, I will stick with the theory that these were bad cops, poorly trained, and steeped in a paranoid cop culture.

 

White officer involved in Tyre Nichols arrest fired

 

Preston Hemphill, the white Memphis Police officer who was one of the first cops to confront Tyre Nichols, was fired from the force, the Memphis Police Department announced Friday evening.

 

Hemphill encountered the 29-year-old during a traffic stop on Jan. 7 and allegedly deployed his Taser during the confrontation. In his own body camera video, Hemphill is seen chasing Nichols down the road, but then turns back to the scene of the initial traffic stop.

I have some agreement with the first part of your post.the second part I find deeply offensive people of color will not stand for nor should they for un equal treatment by the police the blm movement most well known for the extra judicial murder of George Floyd harkens back to the days of the linch mobs that sir is not pathetic CRT is the schooling of ignorant racists to understand and accept what has been done historically is wrong and unacceptable I hope that helps though I doubt it

If you call running away after being illegally assaulted resisting arrest, then you have a point. 

Racism grows naturally inside every cop serving around large cities with lots of poverty, cultures, races, immigrants.
The human brain produces that kind of shortcut based on what the eyes saw in past.

Then follow expectation and cognitive bias.

It takes exceptional character and good training for cops to remain professional at all times.

 

Recruit the right people and train them well.
