wondra
Hi I have applied for extension of "o" based on marriage. I have been advised we will be getting a visit from Immigration where we will need 2 neighbours to say they know me. Is there anything else I will likely need or have to do? thanks Don
Mutt Daeng
Make sure your neighbours bring their ID cards and blue house books, as it is likely that immigration will want to copy them. They did for my home visits.

hotchilli
They will ask you some questions, and ask the neighbours some questions, they will take photo's of you and your partner outside your residence showing the property number. They will also take a multitude of photo's of you together inside the property. They will take copies of your neighbours ID cards and they will have to sign the copies. The whole thing might take 30 minutes to an hour. If all is well they will leave. All you have to do is then return to the IO office on your "under consideration" date [which they stamped in your passport] and get your passport stamped for the extension approval.. 1

Not every IO will go to those lengths. My visit lasted about 20 minutes and the time was mainly spent inspecting my garden while talking to my wife and the village head. A couple of photos outside, didn't go inside the house at all. As is well documented each IO does it's own thing when it comes to most procedures. 9
Popular Post Crossy
Yeah ^^^. Pathum Thani take a couple of photos of us with our witnesses with the gate sign visible and one of me and the missus holding our ID, take the (ready prepared) copies of the witness's ID, chat a bit, decline the offered coffee and leave. Half an hour max. The first year they arrived in their (very) marked BMW which caused a bit of a stir in the village "what's Crossy been arrested for?". This year the same lads had a ratty old Toyota (their own) as the Beemer wasn't available. All very pleasant and professional. 1 1

Not my experience, 3 RTP turned up in their new BMW and talked exclusively to my 2 neighbours, checked their ID's and the took a couple of pics of myself and wife, inside and at the front gate. Gone in less than 20 minutes. I've changed to retirement extension to hopefully avoid any more house visits
chrischronic
How were you informed of visit? I just went through changing visa type in Bkk to marriage and last week just finished second round to extend for a year. Now under consideration for the second time in 3 months and no visit. The visiting officers usually will call you in advance and book a time with you. Sometimes the day before or the actual morning to see if it's convenient 2

They totally ignored me. Spoke to my wife and the neighbours and I was invisible. Funny really, when the only reason they were there was because I had applied for an extension. 4

Our "home visit" many moons ago consisted of a short talk between the wife and immigration officials at a locked gate. The whole thing lasted a few minutes.

It is frustrating isn't it and rather bizarre when you are the prime interest yet you are totally ignored. Last time I went in to my local IO with my wife to get the feel of what they want there after a long absence and so a new visa,to come in, the friendly guy started rattling away at my wife in Thai, ignoring me. But she appeared confused. So he then turned to me and we got on fine in English. He concluded by saying to me " you obviously understand all this better than your wife". He turned to her and said in English " you need to pay attention and to look after your husband better". I don't know what would happen on a house visit. The wife would need to wake up for a start! And we never speak with the neighbours after an argument about our power line which they lost after we involved PEA. Anyway I was good for a retirement visa so went that much simpler route. 3
Fred Ziffel
They come to my place too. For Nonthaburi, just one neighbor has been enough 3 years in a row Big waste of time 1
Popular Post wondra
Thanks everyone Yes hardly spoke to me. Got the IDs and House books (copies of neighbours) and got them to sign paper (gee the Thais love paper) Didnt come in the house we sat outside in the sun (????) Took some pics of us sitting around and at the gate Everyone was speaking in thai so I just laughed when they did and resisted the urge to look at my phone The fuel money tip (yes that was my fallback position) I told the wifey later about that and she said we not do that..probably has better ways of utilizing money Im handing out 5555 Once again thank you cheers Don 3

He had brought a tripod and just took a few photos that included himself and left.

Popular Post pandaburiram
Interesting how our plight and simple question became ridiculous.... It was at the office near the Chang racetrack.. If nobody else is paying for this "visit" we're thinking of contacting the immigration hotline to ask what the do.... 1
dingdongrb
I did 7 years of marriage extensions all out of the Chiang Mai IO and not once did they visit the house. Things probably have changed as that was 2009 thru 2015.
