Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) authorised1,910 flights from China to enter the kingdom, with 671 expected to arrive in February and 970 slated for arrival in March, according to CAAT president Suttipong Kongpool.

In addition, the CAAT has received 6,318 flight requests for the period from February 13 to 19, bringing the total number of flights for February 2023 to 25,256. A total of 269 Chinese flights already arrived in the country last month. As informed by a news report in Thaiger.

The increase in flights follows the relaxation of travel restrictions by the Thai government after the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the lifting of harsh border restrictions by China on January 8.

A number of Chinese airlines, such as Air China and Air China Southern, have requested to fly to Thailand, operating from various cities in China to various destinations in Thailand.

number of flights for February 2023 to 25,256

So 1, 456 flights landing every day, with an average of 500 on each flight that means 750k Chinese tourists for the month so far.  Add in the extra and what they are saying will come, and if no slowdown during the low season then Thailand may very well see 10 million plus Chinese this year....that's a huge number.  Now that this is being bandied about and speculation of GDP occurs because of this lets watch the baht sink back down from where it is today.  It is stories like this that cause such fluctuations as well as the current OP running regarding a slowing of exports......looks like 20+% of GDP is now what they say tourism accounts for.

Not 500 in each flight. Around 300 is better I think.

Could be depending on the type of aircraft used.  Yet it still becomes a very large number based upon the numbers of Flights AOT is stating/predicting/speculating will happen.

Down playing these estimates seems foolish.  Are some actually here in these tourist areas or airports seeing the hordes of people now?  Get in touch with reality and just wait, overrun will probably be an understatement in the months to come.  Of course, many posted over the past few years: Thailand is finished forever!

How are those words tasting now as the whole world it seems wants to come here.

This 20% that's spoken of is little more than a fallacy.

Too late to contradict, as the orthodox seed was planted ages ago - repeated loud and often enough.

I have noticed a marked increase in tourist coaches/buses in the Jomtien area, not full, maybe they are just getting ready?

I used to live on the road going up from,Jomtien night market and those filthy buses used to leave the engines running for hours while their clients ate at the night market and bought fruit. Moved.

I'm Chinese and in China and we asked the same question when we heard the farang was in Thailand!!!!!  Avoid those falangs!!!!!

Funny, everywhere I go it's 'avoid the Chinese', or 'if you are Chinese do not do this'; spitting (many signs in Hong Kong), standing on toilet seat, throwing "No. 2" into the bin next to the toilet, driving on the wrong side, climbing statues and monuments, doing dangerous things, breaking this and that (Australia, New Zealand signs everywhere in Mandarin). - Seems, mainland Chinese need to be educated on how to travel and behave when abroad...

Smacks of desperation.. daily news on tourist numbers and what they're going to spend.

Thailand has nothing else.

For those that think it will elevate the GDP, maybe.  But stories like this create speculation as to how much money will be spent and help to strengthen the baht by inflows.
