Popular Post srowndedbyh2o
I was doing some cleaning around the house and came across this old Pattaya brochure. “…you can be sure of one thing: You Will Have Fun In Pattaya.” Remember when the area south of South Pattaya Rd. was simply referred to as “The Village”. Notice on the map some Soi’s referred to as “Dirt Lane” or “Sand Alley”. Not much of anything ‘way’ out on 2nd road. Anyone know when the name “Walking Street” started? Wasn’t that the start of “Walking Streets” throughout Thailand? 7 2
Crossy
Any indication of dates on those documents? I see the warnings are all still relevant ????
warrima
These are pretty cool. I see it says 1979 on the map. Funny i just watched 'The Scorpion' about Charles Sobhrag and this was the time frame he was doing the rounds. There are a few times he goes to Pattaya. 1

Popular Post GypsyT
1979 - the year of my first trip to Pattaya! It took around 4 hours from Bangkok by bus and the road was, at least part of it, dirt. There were only one bigger hotel but too expensive for me. British Airways crews were there. Females had not 1 but 2 young boys keeping company ???? I stayed in a cheap shack with my local girl guide. Life was very simple and good. I had come via Hong Kong where I bought a big "Ghetto Blaster" thinking to make money when back to L.A. where Blacks loved them and they were very expensive in the States. However, that little Thai had gotten my heart and in last moment, on the way to the airport, I sold it to taxi driver and returned to Pattaya for an other week or two. Money well spend. 6

Yes, the bus stop to Bangkok was on the T junction of Road 2 and North Pattaya Road.
Jingthing
Baht bus fare was two baht. Ten baht is highway robbery! That's an increase of 500 percent! That map is amazing. The gay zone in South Pattaya didn't start until about 1982.
ozimoron
I think it was only 1 baht for the song taew in 1984. The only gogo bars were in soi diamond, 4 of them. One was called Blue Hawaii. The Marine Bar was the only night club. Nang Nual restaurant was there then. The old fisherman's wharf was still a going concern and trawlers would dock there around 9PM and you could sit there at tables and eat fresh caught fish cooked straight off the trawlers. I don't recall Klang as ever being referred to as North Pattaya Rd and I was coming here a long time ago.....Google Maps seems to position Naklua on Pattaya Klang. I do recall that what is now Second Rd, South from Tai, was known as Pratumnak Rd.

Bali Hai end of Walking Street used to be a pleasure. They didn’t stop until they ruined everything.
