PHOTO: Expedia By Peter Roche Phuket officials hope to build a bridge that will connect the sub-districts of Wichit and Chalong, in Mueang district. The Phuket Express reports that tourism minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn was on the island this week and visited the project site to cross the Mudong Canal. Phiphat welcomes the bridge idea, saying it will improve transportation on the island. It’s understood the bridge will be around 8 metres wide and 280 metres long and is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Phiphat has also suggested that in the future, the bridge could be a new landmark for the island and has suggested that a walking street market could be located nearby. However, the project has not yet been given final approval, according to the report, and there has been no confirmation of the timeline to completion or of the budget involved.
