Agree. I wanted a long term commitment, but I wuz wrong to think that marriage was the answer. IMO marriage is a terrible idea for western men, and only benefits western women that win no matter how good or bad a wife they are.

I've been hearing about the imminent, oncoming disaster of porn-based mental illness my whole life.

 

For me, this is like the pot argument: Does it make you a loser, or do losers just really love pot?

I marked both, but since I live in thailand there is great benefits to have a local wife instead of a foreigner. 

 

As well the choices of a falang woman who suits me and fits with me is pretty slim out of many reasons. Those women who live or want to live in Thailand have often or is challenged one way or the other.

 

A female expat worker would not fit in my life style either or even a local full time working wife, because that would limit my freedom while living here since Im not working in Thailand. 

 

If money was an issue, I might wanted a full time working woman.

Gives us something other than mundane sh*&*t to talk about over dinner.

 

In many ways when we were in Thailand full time, and I couldn't work her work stories helped keep me sane through the boredom

We have a small farm with animals, so we have something to do every day, we also have other interests and activities as well travel often around inside and outside Thailand.

Men have been propagandised to believe it is healthy & liberating for them (much like cigarette smoking was encouraged for many decades).

 

This is particularly so in the US, where people are taught that access to pornography should be defended as part of America's hard-won constitutional freedoms. But the First Amendment was never intended to protect speech that has no social merit, artistic quality, or political purpose. Most online pornography would not meet those standards, meaning that the Free Speech rationale for pornography has little merit or relevance today.

 

I agree with you that digital delivery is a completely different ballgame to the old school 20thC methods like videos, DVDs, magazines, movie theatres. Those required a bit more determination and forethought by the user! 2000 was the year it really got started (high speed internet became widely available in the home). Interesting for us to look back now, 23 years down the track.

 

I also agree with your very sensible observations about the effects on young men.

Won't cause psychosis. Won't cause a sex crime rampage thru the streets. Won't cause pedophilia overnight. 

 

May contribute to a lot of divorces, failed relationships, and depression in the long term (for men and also for the women trying to have intimacy with them). 

 

Subtle downstream effects.

I always liked mature woman, but mostly between 30 and 50 with a few exceptions both ways.

I have met a few with Philipines and Laos gf's, and they seems ok with their life's. I guess bringing a thai gf to Laos, Cambodia or Philippines could be challenging.

No, I think porn addiction and sex addiction at the level of requiring a 12 steps program is very rare.

 

Parsing out these bad habits as significant contributors to life-misery (as opposed to the vague may contribute) would be hard work.

 

A person who's depressed, fails at relationships, and prob has a few other vices is never going to be the foundation of a rom-com plot.

 

Like pot, porn is for the idle and the slack. If those traits are proof of mental illness, I should be in a straight jacket by now.
