Rescue services were called to Tha Toom sub-district in Surin, NE Thailand, after granddad Kern's finger went all manky.

He'd been wearing a ring for years now he couldn't get it off and had got a nasty swollen finger.

It took the rescue men an hour to get it off after which Kern declared that his ring wearing days were over.

He was "khet laew" - he had learned his lesson.

Siam Rath said the case was "waat siaw" - rather startling.

What is the Thai translation of 'manky'?   555

More to the point, what is the English translation of 'manky'?!

(Joking here of course, but I thought manky was a very colloquial word only used in Leicester in my youth...)

Depending at which end of the East Lancs Road you live, or the colour of your Manchester shirt. 555
