I must be a hypocrite when it comes to racism

Featured Replies

I was talking to a work colleague recently and we were discussing certain races of people

I told him I judge the book by it's person rather than race l

I don't care if a work colleague is black white kiwi  Chinese or whatever I judge of themselves personally  ,he was judging by race ," oh (certain race ) they should be working in a 711 they're lazy not here !"

So I didn't agree ,I told him , white Aussie can just be as lazy so need to be racist ,

then lo & behold I'm walking home last night 11pm I see about 4 guys walk towards me ,I decided to cross the road ...wait for it...based on their race ,ok they had what looked like beer bottles in their hand and one had his shirt off tied around his waist, but that wasn't the reason I crossed the road ,

This was in Australia and in reality I have had no problems with this particular "race" over the years apart from some minor drunken abuse and asking for money but I never thought I was "racist" but going I what I did I actually must be !

then I thought if they were of another race eg indian/ Nepalese ,Chinese, Asian etc  I would have not been scared and kept walking past them but because they were that certain race I decided to cross the road .so I'm a hypocrite.

A absolute hypocrite!

What about you are we all racists in reality ?

I think you did the right thing. If you feel that the situation might get difficult then avoid it.

It doesn't matter if the guys are black or just big guys or drunk or loud or whatever. We all have our experience, and we act accordingly. That makes a lot of sense.

I think racism is if you really decide against someone because of his/her race in a not threatening situation with all other things equal. I.e. if you are at work and a new co-worker is introduced to you, and you think or say: He is black, he can't be a good technician and he will make the toilet dirty. That is racist.

What can't you say the name of the race of people whom you are referring to ?

bogans are not a race are they?

I sometimes think I am and have to self-check....

I work in a very multinational environment and I have established a number of generalisations about the nationalities with whom I work... depending on the nationality, some people might accuse me of being racist without understanding the process and what else has ‘gone on’...

For example... I find myself completing about ‘certain nationalities’ and then find myself wonder if I have any issues with that specific nationality... I self-check and realise, just last year I pushed for a promotion for a guy from that nationality !!!...  then the subsequent year I end up getting rid of 3 in a row because they are utterly rubbish, lazy and have a poor attitude.

So no, I’m not racist... I judge purely on merit and merit alone...  BUT, it may seem we are racist when we are faced with a succession of people from one nationality or another who do not reach muster.

As far as racists are concerns, very few people I meed these days are: The accusation gets thrown around at lot because people like to virtue signal with the race-card.

That said, I rarely meet a South African who I don’t think is racists. Nearly every time I speak with a South African, within 5 mins they’ve drop a ‘humdinger of a race bomb’ !!!!!....

Or if you walk into an operation and there are 3 Egyptians and you think... daymmmm, didn’t I just get rid of a couple of Egyptians who were no good...  then one of them turns out to be brilliant but you still have to get rid of the other two for being lazy and dishonest...

... Racist... I don’t think so, but on paper I’d choose certain nationalities over others based purely on my bias. Some would suggest I have a negative opinion of Egyptians (as the example I used) and they’d be correct, but its based on experience...  not racist, prejudiced then !

White... I don’t know if Black South Africans are racist towards white South Africans...  But within minutes of meeting a White South African they made some statement to highlight how they aren’t racist however in doing so they’ve dropped a grade A1 ‘the blicks are just lazy crims’ race-bomb !!!!
