I got that from my GPs as well. Excess weight (fat) causes all sorts of problems that will go away if you follow the advice.

Easier said than done of course, I'm struggling with weight issues at the moment; I'm 106 kegs when I should be about 75 and I have a dull ache in my liver area, so I feel your pain.

I've just cut out the booze and am trying to eat more healthy options (bye bye KFC). I'm not expecting results for at least a month, these things take time.

Yes I too have that dull ache on the right side but Sheryl says we shouldn't have this ,?

It's not stopping me from doing anything,it's just annoying

But you need to do something asap because if you google it ,you only have a shirt life with that liver ,

If your not interested in liver disease etc then please ignore me !

I'm going thru a stage at this time of inflamed liver

Yes, I've been through the same thing, that's why I provided a link to the doctor that saved my life.

But that does mean your thread does not sound like a wind-up, and please feel free to ignore me.

A dull ache is muscle pain. Your liver has no pain receptors.

Really? That's good to know. There's something called referred pain so my full ache could be coming from somewhere else.

Why hasn't the doctor tested me for this ? Or have they?

I will make an appointment online to see her tommrrw (Tuesday) immediately!!

All they have done is blood tests and ultrasound

I have seen this lady GP more than 7 times in the last 2 weeks and all she wants to do is....wait until I lose weight

Always seems too interested in putting me on weight scales and referring me to a  dietetician rather than send me to a liver  specialist !!

The pain is a dull pain which is not stopping me from going to the gym but nevertheless it's not a good sign

I never thought of this hep C ,I will tell her tomorrow to test me for this !!!

Thankyou

6 Kg in 2 weeks is not very realistic, unless it was mostly water. Don't forget to drink water.

Hep c is diagnosed by a specific blood test and will not show up on a typical liver function test.

This member has been trying to get the OP  and others to get a simple test for HEPATITIS C .

Actually everyone should add it when getting a standard blood test .   If you test positive then you definitely need to read up on it.   There are pills now that kill the virus.... still very expensive and I am not sure if available in Thailand .    It can take years, decades even,, for symptoms to show..  but Hep C is a serious disease.

Yellowtail is giving the best advice .   First get a test !!

Go to one of the better hospitals, make an appointment with a hepatologist (liver specialist) and get them to test for everything liver-related, to include gallbladder and a full GI work-up. From there, you'll get a diagnosis and know how best to proceed.

Have you had your gallbladder checked? It sits just below the liver and you might be mistaking issues in that part of the body with gallbladder-related problems, possibly gallstones.

Also consider that it might be that your liver is under strain from something else in the body like mould, Lyme or some other long-term infection which could be producing mycotoxins that circulate throughout the body which your liver has to deal with and can become over-burdened.

There are so many possibilities and that is why I'd seek a hepatologist to do a full work-up.

Your doctor is putting you on the scales because you are obese, bordering on severely so.

I am 180 cm, and weigh 78 kg. I was 93 kg, before I went on a diet I developed for myself.

No sugar, no alcohol, no processed foods except cheese. No  vegetable that grows below ground, no rice, a small amount of bread. Low carb fruits, such as strawberries and blueberries. As much protein as I want.

A "large frame" is no excuse, my last bone scan showed I had excellent bone density.

A fatty liver is a long way from life-threatening, and can be turned around with a healthy diet and exercise.

I had no idea of this ,it seems under the right ribcage ? On the top part ?

An ultrasound of your gall bladder will detect if you have gallstones or bile duct sludge, both of which can cause pain.

So far in 2 weeks lost 6kg height 177cm and 108kg

I have bigger body structure so what would my best weight be ?

According to google it's 78kg that would be very small

Kind of funny really, I am 165cm and about 72KG. Doctor says I need lose weight but if you saw me then you would say I didn't as I am quite 'fit' from exercise daily.

The weight they want me to achieve I have only ever once reached in the last 10 years - which was when I had food poisoning and literally was on the bog 24/7 for 4 weeks running. I looked gaunt and everyone kept asking was I very ill with something.

One Doc recently said lose weight, another when I was more said your fine due to body structure !

Why dont you just follow the doctors direction and lose weight, fix your diet and stop all the extra vitamins like the doctor told you. 2 weeks is hardly any time to see a change, it could take several weeks to a couple months. If it was a more serious issue the evidence would be apparent and the doctors you've seen would be testing for it.  Man up dude.

Yes, op is way overweight and no doubt poor quality of food. I'm 183cm and 77.5 and still have a few kg midsection I need to lose.

Recommend all protein diet. You won't lose anything for three weeks but then it slides off.

Will probably take better part of a year.

good info ........ i would just add :  "a good hepatologist "  .    my experience with specific health matters is I try to educate myself a little ....... then seek an "expert" .    or two !

blindly following a health practioner is not my way of doing things.   thats just me :

OP's in Australia mate, he can't do that over there. You can't see a specialist without a referral from a GP.

Why on earth would you suspect Hepatitis? Liver enzyme results do not suggest it, neither did ultrasound.

There is absolutely no indication that OP has a significant liver problem of any sort. He is making more than a mountain out of less than a mole hill.

Completely normal liver function tests 3 months ago. Very, very small elevation in LFTs now -

AST 57 (normal is 8 to 48)

 ALT 68 (normal is 7 to 55)

Such very slight elevations are often due to medications taken i nthe 24 hours prior, and OP is indeed taking things that could have this effect. However did not stop them and  repeat the labs as recommended.

Ultrasound (which is already more than most doctors would suggest at those values) showed healthy liver with just a little fatty infiltration, as is to be expected in someone 20 kg overweight.

OP is either intentionally trolling or else has somatization disorder (a type of anxiety disorder, what people in past would have called hypochondria). That he undergoes extensive  blood panels every 3 months even when completely normal and no symptoms, and takes mega-doses (excessive doses) of various supplements, good chance of the latter.

Please do not encourage him.

i had "slightly elevated"  enzyme readings for 20 years  ....... before they shot up and i got very ill.

I finally took a hep c test on my own !    i had hep c !

why such a nasty response to me just saying that he should get a SIMPLE  blood test ?

really !

I will let the CDC ( a source even you might recognize )  answer why i suggest adults do this very simple blood test .

https://www.cdc.gov › knowmorehepatitis › hcp › Screen-All-Patients-For-HepC.htm

Screen all adult patients for hepatitis C | CDC

Hepatitis C can be cured; testing is the first step. Why Test All Your Adult Patients? New cases of hepatitis C are on the rise, particularly among reproductive age adults. Rates of new HCV infections increased by more than 60% from 2015 to 2019. And in 2019, more than 63% of HCV infections occurred among adults 20-39 years of age.

Furthermore

Should I get tested for hepatitis C? - Harvard Health

A. Hepatitis C is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the liver. The CDC reports that 75% of all current cases of hepatitis C are in the baby boomer genera

tion and many more are undiagnosed. The reason is that a vast majority of people have no symptoms,

I need to plan ahead

Yesterday I made another Will, the lawyer in Sydney was so slow I had to tell her about my fatty liver and life expectancy she hurried it up

Indeed,  OP does appear to be "panicking"  , which older people do sometimes.  Maybe he had private PM with Sheryl.... but the posts i read were answered by some , saying calm down.   That rarely does calm someone down.   My experience from not being aware of hep C (no symptoms for a long long time) to almost dying from it )  will always have me suggest to older adults to include the very inexpensive testing for Hep C . when doing a regular blood test.

Perhaps the OP should understand that the person who donates a liver is either brain dead or going to be completely dead very shortly after their entire liver is removed. It is not a case of being able to donate your liver and then go about your business. In a very small percentage of cases, partial transplants can be performed, usually involving family members because of the difficulty of cross matching. In order to get a transplant, which the OP doesn't at all need, he would have to be on a recipient liver transplant list and be right at the top of the list and hope that the next liver up is a suitable match, the chances are it will not be. So talking about the cost of liver transplant in India is really just a nonsense, especially given the OP's diagnosis and prognosis.
