Pattaya: Woman in agony after metal grille pierces her ankle - calls to crackdown on messy contractors

The seemingly never ending mess that are roadworks in Pattaya is in the news once again.

 

This time the sloppy work being done by unregulated contractors has resulted in a serious injury to a woman out shopping for dinner.

 

Forty two year old Sirima had just parked on Thepprasit Road to go and buy food at the Rattanakan Market in South Pattaya.

 

It was dark at 9pm and she walked into a two meter long metal grille used as part of concreting work resurfacing the road.

A spike went into her ankle leaving her in agony still attached to the spike.

 

She called out for help and locals contacted Sawang Boriboon rescue who rushed to the scene, reported Thai Rath.

 

The spike had gone right through her leg. Tools had to be used to cut her free and she was taken to Bang Lamung Hospital with part of the metal still embedded in her leg.

 

Locals said it was resurfacing work ordered by City Hall; they called for the council to crackdown on contractors who don't put away their tools and leave the area in a mess creating dire hazards for the public.

Blood poisoning is a concern with this type of injury. Contractors should be fined.

And what about the shop owners who treat the sidewalk as if it's their property?  They cover it with boxes, bikes and crates, forcing pedestrians onto the road, or in parts, into the yawning chasms where the road used to be.

Buakhao 15 down to the Avenue, contractor hasn't been there 4 months, to finish the work.

Seems to have been suspended since the contractor started an electrical fire that damaged some vehicles. I suspect they have not completed the drainage project that should have reached Buakhao, and has been forgotten until we get the rainy season reminders.

Worked stopped until the vehicles damaged in the fire have their Insurance claims sorted.....the contractor doing the work aught to be liable as it was his Backhoe driver which caused the fire.....if he actually has insurance that is

What about all the Menu Boards and Advertising C### , and the Tables and Chairs that then constitute their " Restaurant " taking over the Sidewalk

This is mainly caused by over-ordering of building materials.  Because most contractors never got past their two times table at school, they blithely order twenty odd power poles to lie by the road for years.
