Trump was just served a rather humiliating defeat by China.
You nailed the structural imbalance. What hasn’t been mentioned yet is how temporary and conditional this “deal” really is. According to the Wall Street Journal, China’s rare-earth export licenses come with a six-month expiry—meaning Beijing can revoke or slow-walk them at will. That’s not supply chain security; that’s a ticking clock. Also, Trump’s “55% tariffs” boast? WSJ confirms it’s just a rolled-up number from his old tariffs—no new penalties, no fresh leverage. Even a White House official quietly admitted it’s mostly political packaging. And here’s the kicker: the WSJ reports this is basically the same Geneva framework from March 2025, just reheated in London and dressed up for domestic optics. No structural wins, no new concessions from Beijing—just a tactical pause. This isn’t the Art of the Deal—it’s the art of folding and pretending you won. https://www.wsj.com/economy/trade/u-s-and-china-agree-to-get-geneva-pact-back-on-track-695eb5f5 PS: The timing’s no coincidence. Trump’s LA spectacle was meant to distract from the Xi “deal” falling flat—and from another looming humiliation: the quiet failure of his two-week ultimatum to Putin to end the war in Ukraine. -

Russia planning ‘to test article 5’, with an attack on Nato
For a very long time actually the world preferred Germany not to be a military superpower again. It only changed quite recently. -

Nothing much to do in regular Thailand
This month's activities .... Helped to set up regenerative farming fields and fence off a wild area and add flowering plants to improve biodiversity. Longboard skate along a beach pathway - hard work into the wind, fun on the downwind leg. 10k run, but stopped halfway at a nice coffee shop to eat cake, so no real health benefit Visited a goat cafe Visited a new bar with great sunset views Walked around a lively night market - bought some clothes for the Missus. (I don't bother buying clothes for myself after I realised I have more than enough to last for the remainder of my life Figured out how to setup a solar powered 4G security camera for the farm Cleaned and maintained the motorbike in preparation for a trip next month. Took some nice portrait photos of my muse/wife Teaching myself video editing to make a video about the farm project ... need to work on sound mixing as it's much harder than I imagined Conference next week in Bangkok on regenerative cassava farming Heading to Bangkok for the Impact Speedfest this weekend. Going to Bangsaen end of month for the Grand Prix supercar and truck street racing. Fixed some faulty lights in the house under the close supervision of the Missus Going to various local shops with photos on my phone of items the Missus needs to cook dinner And yes, lots eating delicious food. -

Slow mail from UK recently ?
But I didn't get mine for 53 days! On the other hand, I received a letter from HMRC last week in 27 days. Go figure the reasons for the huge discrepancy between these 2 UK government departments. -

'Dead' Man Shocks Rescuers by Waking Up in Nonthaburi Canal
In Nonthaburi on June 11, a man believed to be dead shocked emergency responders when he suddenly cried out for help while floating motionless in a canal. The 70-year-old man, Kosem, had fallen in after fainting on his way home. Initially mistaken for a drowning victim due to visible facial wounds and stillness, he sprang to life when responders tried to move a nearby concrete block. Rescuers quickly pulled him out and took him to hospital, amazed by what seemed like a miraculous recovery.
