Authorities have identified a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard as a person of interest in the investigation into classified documents leaked over the Discord social media platform in recent months, sources told ABC News Thursday.

The New York Times has reported the name of this person. ABC News is not naming the individual at this time and has reached out to the family of the person of interest.

WASHINGTON — The person suspected of recently leaking classified U.S. government documents has been identified as Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, two law enforcement officials said Thursday.

Officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, said that officials have been tracking Teixeira for some time and that an arrest is imminent.

The classified documents from the Department of Defense were found online last month — it remains unclear how long the documents had been on the internet and the total number that have been posted — and revealed details of U.S. spying on Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine, secret assessments of Ukraine’s combat power, as well as intelligence gathering on America’s allies, including South Korea and Israel, NBC News previously reported.

The person who spoke to the AP says Teixeira was an observant Christian who often spoke of God and prayed with members of the chat group.

 

The chat group, called “Thug Shaker Central,” drew roughly two dozen enthusiasts who talked about their favorite types of guns and also shared memes and jokes, some of them racist. The group also included a running discussion on wars that included talk of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

He also posted them on a Discord server to flex to his friends

I was wondering how long it would take the right to pivot and support him, Given that he seems to share Tucker Carlson's view of the Ukraine war, I don't think it will take long at all.

Mr Teixeira worked as an IT specialist in the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts National Guard, based at Otis Air National Guard Base in western Cape Cod.

The National Guard is a reservist wing of the US Air Force. They are not employed full time in the military, but can be deployed when necessary.

Mr Texeira's official title is Cyber Transport Systems journeyman and he holds the rank of Airman 1st Class - a relatively junior position.

It is not clear what level of security clearance Mr Texeira had, but according to the Air Force website, employment in the role requires a single scope background investigation (SSBI). That clearance is reportedly required for access to top secret information.
