Samui, Surat Thani – The body of a missing fisherman was found after a fishing boat capsized during a storm near Samui Island.

The Samui Public Relations Department told the Phuket Express that many local fishing boats were reportedly capsized during heavy storms on Sunday (April 16th).

Four people have been rescued so far. One particular local fishing boat was capsized between Tan Island and Samui Island. The fisherman, Mr. Wiroj Srifah, 51, had previously been reported as missing.

Its no guarantee of survival but modern lightweight life vests for all fishermen might save a few of their hard-graft lives.

Spot on.

Unfortunately. most fishermen cannot afford such luxuries. They are living hand to mouth.

Even donating life vests to them would not help. They would probably sell them for cash at the local market.

This has happened to me twice when I have tried to help people.

Bought all staff motorbike helmets. One week later - all but one were sold.

Working for a charity, we bought mosquito nets for a few villages. Again, all sold.
