An accident occurred on Ratchada Road in Bangkok in the early hours of May 2, 2023, resulting in the death of a young girl.

Three friends, two boys, and one girl were traveling in a van to pay their respects at the Ganesh temple in the Huai Khwang area when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree and a fence. The girl was ejected from the van and died on impact, reported Sanook.

According to reports, Pol. Capt. Phatarachai Montri, the deputy inspector-general of the Phaholyothin Police Station, received a report at 12:30 a.m. of a car that had lost control and crashed into the fence of the Department of International Trade Promotion along Ratchadapisek Road in the Chomphon sub-district of the Chatuchak district.

Upon arrival, he promptly contacted medical and law enforcement officials, as well as a volunteer from the Bo Teck Tung Foundation.

At the accident site, approximately 50 meters from the entrance to the Department of International Trade Promotion, a brown Hyundai S1 van from Bangkok was found on its left side with shattered glass and a missing right rear sliding door. Nearby, two Frangipani trees and a Banyan tree with a diameter of 10 inches were also damaged.

Inside the van, the odometer read zero. A can of beer was found on the console next to the driver's side window.

The victim who died in the accident was identified as Ms. Pitchayaporn, 27 years old, who was ejected from the vehicle. The driver, Mr. Chattawat, 29, and Mr. Phakwat, 34, sitting next to him, were injured and rushed to Paolo Chokchai Hospital 4 for treatment. The vehicle owner, Ms. Apisara, 57 years old, has also been identified.

Mr. Chattawat, the driver, told rescuers that they had come from a house in the Rama 2 area to pay their respects at the Ganesh temple at the Huai Khwang intersection. As they arrived at the accident site, he was driving in the far-right lane when the van skidded, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Upon reviewing footage from the front camera, reporters discovered that the road was four lanes wide, with the far-right lane often having small puddles along the way.

It is suspected that these were caused by a water truck that had earlier hit the tree in the middle of the road. When the van moved from the third lane to the right lane to overtake another car, it skidded and slid to the left until the accident occurred.

Colonel Pattarachai said that the injuries sustained by the two surviving victims were minor, and they were ready to undergo an alcohol level examination.

Further investigations will be conducted later. At present, the surveillance footage around the accident site and the footage in front of the vehicle is being examined.

So it was the second accident there that night. Sums up Thai driving skills rather well. As does 'hit the tree in the middle of the road' sum up Thai reporting skills.

The girl ejected! A simple seat bely very likely could have saved her life….but as we know, there is zero education about road safety in Thailand!

And if there was then people would ignore what they are taught anyway, as they ignore every rule or law. It's their culture. Up to them if it kills them. They don't care, so I don't care.

And the speed limit on that road is? 50KPH (30MPH)? A lot of damage and destruction ending in tragedy. What speed was the dash cam recording at time of the collision?

On Google street view I saw several 40 KPH on signs and painted on the road in that general area.  The road is wide and straight right there.
