What if he’d have died because he didn’t have access to his prescription medication ????

The consequences as you put are beyond extreme.

yes ....  agree , he should have been given full access to his medication .... there's no excuse for keeping them from him,  although hand them to him as prescribed/required.

he should be treated like any other drug offender and given food etc ...

I think it's quite widely known how crude and harsh Thai jails can be.To then proceed with ANY type of illegal substance then you get exactly what you deserve.

Next … riding without helmets and without a valid licence. Straight to jail as they are law breakers, and they will get exactly what they deserve!

Nationality is irrelevant.

No sympathy and ignorance is no defence. (imho)

I note that dad has not come here to try to help.  Leaving everything to a Philippine gf not the best move

God, how many times were we warned to stay away from drugs in this country?

Why take the risk?

Can't folks take a break from getting high on illegal drugs?

Weed is legal!!!!!!!

The Thai people do not like when you insult their laws!!!!

Take a BREAk!!!!!!

Kiwi tourist pleads guilty to ecstasy possession in Phuket, Thailand

A tourist from New Zealand pleaded guilty to drug possession at a court in Phuket, southern Thailand, on Monday.

In September, police arrested 45 year old Ari Michael Salinger after finding two ecstasy tablets on his person. He was released on bail and his passport was confiscated while awaiting trial.

On Monday, the court sentenced Salinger to a “small fine” after he pleaded guilty, reports Newsroom. He expected to be transferred to the Immigrant Detention Centre to await deportation, but he was instead detained at Patong Provincial Police Station.

Salinger’s father Dr Jim Salinger, a renowned New Zealand climate scientist, said that his son’s clothes, food, and medicine were taken away upon his detention on Monday. He was left to sleep naked on a concrete floor for three nights, said Dr Jim.

He was out on bail since September, Went to court pleaded guilty, got a small fine, made to sleep naked, I doubt that. Must have acted like a d..k, towards the officers. cause if he hadnt and spoke correctly, they would have provided him with, at his cost, food and shower, plus allowed him to access his belongings. plus if he had used a lawyer and offered to purchase a ticket to fly home in the court hearing, he wouldn't be in the jail. he would be gone. Sad thing is, here in Thailand with entertainment and booze, he had to use drugs. So, suffer he must.

If you carry drugs around then you face the consequences if caught.  He's lucky he wasn't in Singapore or Saudi.

They don't lock up people any more in Thailand for drug possession

yes, we all know how wise and just the RTP are, universally!  That's the only explanation, it must be his own fault they mistreated him. (sarcasm alert)

The difference is in the UK and US you may get away, slagging the police, but here noway. He plea guilty, and should talk to them, instead of acting smug, but, with remorse. Sweet mouth goes along way in Thailand, no matter how false it may be.

What makes you think he was ’slagging the police’ or ‘acting smug’ and 'without any remorse' ???

he would have been far better off if hed knecked them back. That said he was pobably set up. Most thai copls wouldnt be able to recognize an dodgy pill unless they knew what they were looking for or it was suspiciuly wrapped.

I was just wondering IF you read something / somewhere that the police treated the Kiwi in this manner because he was uncooperative etc.

I too also consider that some of his treatment may have been brought upon himself through his behaviour... Perhaps he is not mentally well etc....

There is still no excuse for this treatment though, particularly preventing him access to medication.

Do not think he was held in jail but in police station cell and in police station cells they do not provide any water or food or anything else .

anyone held in cells relies on family or friends to bring everything and then it is also shared by all inside the cells.

Just some E……a dangerous and illegal drug in the country he is in. And he deserves our sympathy why exactly? He chose his path, he can’t have any complaints

First hand info ????

So, all prisoners in cells (police detention) are stripped and not given water or food for three days ???

That seems a stretch for this to be the norm,  even for Thailand...

As n00dle wrote... some thing else perhaps going on here...  Revenge for him refusing to pay out his bribe of 100,000 baht (or however much) and instead seeing it through to court where the fine is significantly less... BiB annoyed that their hard work didn’t pay off  ???   As others have pointed out, the Kiwi rubbed that in their faces / misbehaved  etc etc ??

They warned him to be cautious about publicising the situation on social media, saying “please be mindful of the potential of comments on social media to worsen your situation. We encourage you to focus on sorting out your case. If anything does not sound right, do think twice and be careful before acting."

The official said they had been in touch with the lawyer and local police, who reported that he had been throwing water at other detainees and police officers. Salinger said he had never thrown water at people.

Salinger’s pregnant partner Vanessa Pagarigan came over from the couple’s home in the Phillipines at the time of the arrest to help him. Pagarigan has been rushing between the court and the jail, bringing Salinger bottles of water. But no change of clothes?  plus “He has a son in Australia who wonders whether he will ever see him again,”

Dangerous ???...  over egg yer pudding much....

And he does deserve sympathy - his treatment is inhumane.

People like yourself would have the same response to someone caught with weed a couple of years ago...
