Many political insiders are claiming that Thailand’s Election Commission are trying to nullify the upcoming election by committing and finding irregularities in a bid to keep the current government in power.

Rumors inside the opposition camp has intensified in recent days with many candidates publicly and privately pointing to the botched early voting this past Sunday and instances of irregularities being leaked to the public.

If the election should be voided for irregularities, the current government would continue in its caretaker role until a new election can be held – a process that could take weeks if not months.

I propose to nullify these elections and hold new ones, but with foreign countries who come to control and see if there are no irregularities ....Now nobody can be trusted

With the outcome (including the ultimate formation of a coalition governemt) impossible to predict - many savvy Thai and foreign observers are offering a range of three or four outcome predictions - the Powers that Be are getting a bit fidgety.

They're balancing the future unknown, with taking preemptive action.

In my lowly opinion, they should let things play out, election-wise. They can always jigger things later on, with courts, commissions, legal threats on individuals and such.

Futzing with the election now would seem to be an admission that this latest version (12.0?) of Thai Democracy is a failure.

What else would you expect when even Super Poll, owned by the government, openly says that Prayuth doesn't have a chance.

The body who is meant to oversee the election is rigging the election. Yep! No need for international observers. Not long now until the people take to the streets.

or worse...

Or possibly years!

All seven members of the current EC are the same members from the previous election, appointed by the National Legislative Assembly, which was the legislative arm of the previous junta.

If you cannot win an election regularly, then you declare the election invalid. It's easy when you've completely occupied institutions, that should normally be completely independent, with your friends.

Envelopes being distributed this morning in my village. Just containing money....nothing else.  The distributors (villagers) quote 2 candidates numbers, but nothing is written!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   A comment allegedly made was that if you don't vote we take the money back!

Unfortunately I agree. These maniacs in charge care little about anything else but their personal power and fortune. The people of Thailand mean nothing to them. It's all about keeping control for the elites and those that shall not be mentioned.

One has to wonder if this is not the plan in order to have more time for the EC to disband a few parties and invalidate the members from ever running for government positions again.  Troubling times lay ahead.  Sad really because Thailand just keeps taking steps backwards when they could be truly the center of the universe as some people say it is.

Must be easy to determine to which party the numbers belong. Then vote what you like and if anybody will ever come back to "take the money back" (on what evidence ?) threaten them with a legal suit. This is beyond buying votes but extortion IMHO. Or give the money back by yourself if the numbers are not what you would have voted for if you dont want to lie saying you voted what they wanted if they need the "money presents" urgently.

Yes I know it is a village and it depends who gave the envelopes as well....

Correct, Thais will tolerate a lot for a long time, then the fuse is lit.

The powers to be, now, realizing the very likely possibility, they're going to be voted out.   Now, how to find irregularities, enough to ban those front runners, and or party, from running again, when new elections are allowed.

Some are suggesting ... not me of course

That sounds familiar ... ????

Basically, if it occurs it will be an inside job so no coup will be necessary unless the voters erupt as far as being disenfranchised.  This could get ugly.

Surely there will be another bloodless coup along, this or next election.  Seem to be overdue, though rarely go 10 yrs without one.

Longest stretch without one was 14 yrs.  I got here a few after a coup, and had 2 while here,  Just another day ????

Once a 'general' is voted out, well then, time to put one back in.  Human nature, those that control the guns ... control.
