Thai Election

Featured Replies

Pretty interesting turn of events, will admit my household were in a state of shock this morning.

Wife voted for future forward, but she was as we thought one of the few that would seeing as the locals were being paid 2k THB to vote for the prior incumbent(s) [had a call from one of the locals, saying she could have 2,000 THB to vote for x party, she naturally declined] but turns out seemingly the entirety of Phuket in the end voted in overwhelming numbers for Future Forward.

I've been here a long time, so it's good to see us move away from the current system, however couldn't help noticing the sheer amount of affiliations of Future Forward and the US, arguably Thailand has just moved from a state that is not aligned but welcome to do business with either-side (China/US/Russia) to possibly a state aligned with Western interests.

It will be interesting to see how this works out considering all the Russian's moving to Thailand circumnavigating sanctions (financials) and injecting capital into the country (laundering?) and also the unique position Thailand is as a choke point to the flow of materials through the straits of M to China, and possible tensions rising with China being a border nation to Thailand.

Interesting times ahead.

Why not get 2000 baht and vote for other party? Or get from all then vote whoever.

As the word "Harvard" is not mentioned anywhere either in the OP or the responses to it, apart from your pointless/irrelevant post, please give us a clue, including where or what to look at/for and why!

Not mentioned in the OP, but MF leader is a Harvard graduate, and questioning the inference of MF, and presumably the other new coalition parties having a pro Western bias was made.

Topic moved to the Lounge.

From the OP;

"I've been here a long time, so it's good to see us move away from the current system, however couldn't help noticing the sheer amount of affiliations of Future Forward and the US, arguably Thailand has just moved from a state that is not aligned but welcome to do business with either-side (China/US/Russia) to possibly a state aligned with Western interests."

What  and who do you think he was referring to?   Did you actually read the original post (OP)?

Have a look at the funding aspect for many of their protests, etc

Lot of it led back directly to the US and NGO's for Democracy.

On winning the next prime minister immediately stated a move from relationship with China towards more of a relationship with the US, and imposing US restrictions and enforcing US suggestions on Myanmar.
