PHUKET: -- On May 15, 2023, Phuket's Makham Bay Customs Dock was a hive of activity as it welcomed the arrival of a massive cruise ship from Langkawi, Malaysia.

Spearheading the operation, Mr. Natchapong Pranit, Director of the Phuket Regional Harbor Office, along with his dedicated team, facilitated the docking of the ship, which brought with it over two thousand eager tourists to explore the province of Phuket.

Since the country bounced back from the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, opening its doors to international tourism last October, there has been a steady uptick in cruise ship arrivals, reported Siam Rath.

As per Mr. Natchapong's statement, the influx of tourists via these grand vessels, docking at both Patong Bay and Makham Bay, has crossed an impressive count of 160,000 from October 2022 to the present date. This traffic has continuously injected a healthy cash flow into Phuket's tourism sector, reinvigorating its economy.

Crucially, the swelling numbers of large cruise ships setting course for Phuket underscores the revived confidence in its tourism sector, marking a vibrant comeback.

Phew all the way from Langkawi to Phuket – quite an ocean voyage   ????

It's itinerary takes it from Singapore to Dubai.

So plenty of ocean to come.

I guess you know that the typical "cruise experience" involves making a series of short voyages between individual ports, which, collectively, add up to a longish overall total distance for the passengers?

It's a great way to fill the ports of call with 1000's of tourists, who do most of their eating and all of their sleeping on the ship.

Rubbish - I did a cruise that stopped at Phuket, had a few beers and enjoyed some proper Thai food there.
