Pain in shoulder

For more than a month now I have a pain in my right shoulder right where arm meets shoulder.

I first thought it had to do with spending a lot of time on the PC with always that arm stretched holding the mouse.

Some days it would hurt quite a bit, then other days it would be less.

Recently I started going to the gym again after years of absence, and had hoped that would improve things, but it went worse actually.

I can perform most shoulder exercises without much discomfort, but exercises like pull ups are impossible.

Tried a few days of Ibuprofen and that improved things, but I think it acted more like a pain stiller than a healer, because when I stopped pain came back worse.

Are there any medicines I can try, or should x-rays be in order?

An xray will show broken bones and maybe some growth, but an MRI is a true way to find deeper issues.  Could be an impingment or partial rotator cuff tear.  Going to the gym with a bad shoulder can be counter productive.

Do you have pain while sleeping or lifing smaller objects like a coffee cup?

I would seek a Doctor and get some physical therapy.  Possibly a cortisone shot also.

Possibilites ; ....Rotator cuff tears, Tendonitis inflamation, thats why Ibruprofen worked, are some of the most common shoulder complaints, I have the same problems , most annoying when trying to sleep, compressing, laying on  the shoulder.....I have tried all sorts of Physio but nothing works long term,... BUT...   exercises  for the above complaints can be found on You Tube,  & if you persist at them, they do  work,  at least giving some pain relief.. OR  go see an Orthopedic Doctor with Shoulder Specialality, they have 1 in Pattaya....

Yes there is pain while sleeping, not so when lifting small objects.

There is discomfort when using PC mouse because of stretch arm.

When I slightly press on the shoulder bone where it connects to the arm, there is pain

Could be either a shoulder issue or an issue in the cervical spine.

As it has been over a month you should see a good specialist.

Physical exam is first step as from that alone doctor may be able to surmise the source of the pain. Possible that Xray or MRI will also be advised but not certain. Do not self refer for a film or scan as may waste your money, not always necessary.

Where are you located?

Shoulders have a lot of things going on

You need to narrow it down

If you didn't fall on it or lift excessive weight may not be a tear

I get shoulder external rotation weakness sometimes and some simple rubber band stretching helps a lot

Like these...

Or it could be rotator cuff tendonitis or a impinged nerve

There are many great You Tube video that help with those

you may want to look & try narrow it down that way

Or of course use a doctor & hope he is a good, knowledgeable, honest one ????

I am in Pattaya, and familiar with Somdej and queen Sirikit hospital

Could start with an ortho at either and see what they say. Once you have that info, post hear as depending on initial diagnosis may or may not be worth seeing a shoulder or spine specialist.

I've had the same issue. Turned out to be shoulder impingement but I overreacted and went to physical therapy, which was totally unnecessary. Rest works the best.

Been working out, mostly until the last 10 years or so, with very heavy weights since 1974. Back living in Texas about 8 years ago, I had to go to the doctor because my shoulders were hurting beyond what was normal for me. Had two rotator cuff tears. They sent me to physical therapy where I did some off beat exercises. They worked, but one doctor told me that I shouldn't work out anymore. This was told to me when I has a meniscus tear in one knee from very heavy squats. I knew that stopping exercises wasn't right, as you have to keep muscle strength and tone to support the joints, so I continued working out, but didn't go extremes anymore. This has worked all along, but I still get joint pain from the past heavy lifting. Now I take Diclofenac when I have pain. It's a non steroidal anti inflammatory and it usually works.

Here I am, woke up early to go to the hospital, and no pain at all.

Have tried all possible movements to create some pain, but to no avail.

I don't think it will make much sense to see the doctor now of course, because his diagnosis will be that I have no issue.

How strange, suffering from this for more than a month, with yesterday actually severe pain, and this morning nothing at all

It might come again.....but if it comes and goes it will go away on itself most probably....I had bad pain in several joints over the time....training mistakes, accidents. After several month, in some cases years they all went away on themself

Update on this issue.

The pain in the shoulder is still there. Haven't seen a doctor yet, because the pain isn't too bad, so I hoped it would go away,

The pain is the worst when I wake up. When look in the mirror, I see (and feel) a little bump at the location where the pain is. Looking at pictures on Google I think the exact location is the AC joint. image.png.33bb8f6f9b7b9af5bb49a34899ae4962.png

If I massage that location, it relieves most of the inconvenience.

Now since about 3 weeks I also have a pain underside my left elbow, which doesn't go away. This feels more like a muscle tear, or nerve, but since it all starts spontaneous, and doesn't go away, I start to worry about a bone disease.

Is this a possibility?

I had a shoulder issue, it got worse lying on it at night, so avoid going on that side, as for the elbow it could just be a coincidence. My shoulder issue improved massively over 3 months i also stopped golf and cycling for a few weeks

You haven't had yourself checked out properly yet so anything is possible.

As it is worst when you wake up, it may be to do your sleeping position.

You didn't say who old and heavy you are but that might have a lot to do with it too.

Good luck.

Yes, with only half the information, anything is possible, more facts are needed to give a proper armchair diagnosis (555) ; age, weight, past medical/injury history, sleeping habits, physical build, etc.

Bone disease is highly unlikely.

As it has been  1/2 months of shoulder pain high time you saw a doctor For ih.

Elbow pain is most often tendonitis and often results fgom overuse....computer, sports, weighg lifting etc. Rest and ant-inflammatories, plus sometimes an elbow brace udually do the trick over time.

What you think about the visible bump on top of the shoulder?
