Crime Bangkok Drug Bust: 314kg Ice, 22kg Ketamine Seized
Pictures courtesy of Matichon. Police have arrested two drug traffickers and seized a massive cache of illegal narcotics in a significant bust in the capital, recovering 314 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 22 kilograms of ketamine, along with the vehicle used to transport the drugs. At a press conference held at the Metropolitan Police Division 8 on 6 August, senior officers including Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and his deputies announced the arrest of Wasin, aka “Boat”, aged 29 and Afdol, aka “Dol”, aged 24. The arrests follow an extensive investigation under the “No Drugs, No Dealers” initiative, which targeted narcotics networks operating in inner Bangkok. Authorities said the suspects were part of a larger criminal ring linked to a previous arrest in May involving a drug gang in Wang Thonglang. Police tracked the group to Ramkhamhaeng Soi 37 in Bang Kapi district, where the suspects allegedly hid large quantities of drugs in a white Toyota Avanza parked in a residential alley. Surveillance and intelligence gathering revealed that the vehicle was being used to store and distribute narcotics to smaller dealers across the city. On the evening of 4 August at approximately 19:00, investigators observed Wasin and Afdol driving the white Toyota and followed them to a car park in Wang Noi district, Ayutthaya province. The car’s suspicious behaviour led officers to believe a drug transfer was imminent. After the suspects returned to Bangkok and parked the vehicle back in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 37, police moved in and conducted a search. They found: • 239 packets of crystal meth, weighing 239 kilograms • 22 packets of ketamine, weighing 22 kilograms Following questioning, both suspects confessed to transporting the drugs for a fee of 100,000 baht each. They also revealed that more drugs were hidden on the rooftop of a nearby apartment building. A subsequent raid uncovered: • 75 more packets of crystal meth, weighing 75 kilograms, concealed in rainbow-striped sacks. In total, police seized: 1. 314kg of crystal meth (ice) 2. 22kg of ketamine 3. One white Toyota Avanza used for drug transport 4. Three mobile phones linked to drug operations The suspects face multiple charges, including: • Possession of Category 1 narcotics (crystal methamphetamine) with intent to distribute • Possession of Category 2 controlled substances (ketamine) with intent to distribute Authorities are now working to identify the broader network involved. Officers have also initiated proceedings under anti-money laundering laws and are coordinating with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to seize related assets and pursue further legal action. -
