Thunderstorms hit Thailand: Heavy rainfall sparks flash flood warnings

An hour’s drive from Phuket’s Pa Tong Beach, Bang Rong seems to be an ocean apart from its western counterpart. Located on the east coast, it doesn’t have a white sandy beach. Luxury beach clubs, Sunday brunch with free-flow sparkling wine and a pampering spa are most definitely not on its menu.

Taxi-ous times in Phuket: Crackdown leads to double ‘fare-ests’ in Kathu

Phuket‘s crackdown on illegal taxi drivers continues, with two arrests made in Kathu last week. At Si Kor Intersection, Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) officials and Kathu Police officers set up a checkpoint to identify and apprehend drivers using their private vehicles for commercial transportation services.

Phuket immigration issues yellow cards to Thai landlords and foreigner

A tourist from Kazakhstan, initially reported to have drowned at Kata Beach in Phuket, is alive but in a coma. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan provided the updated information, clarifying that earlier reports of the tourist’s death were incorrect.

Warning of water shortage from effects of El Niño from July

People in Thailand are being advised to brace for the effects of the El Niño weather phenomenon from July until September, which could see a reduced amount of rainfall, by as much as 10% compared to last year, depending the severity of the weather condition, according to Somkuan Tonjan, director of the Central Weather Forecast subdivision of the Thai Meteorological Department.

Khao Yai National Park holiday weekend visitor surge generates almost 800,000 baht

Khao Yai National Park experienced an influx of visitors during this weekend’s holiday from June 3-5, with almost 800,000 baht generated in revenue from entrance fees alone, according to park chief Chaiya Huayhongthong. Over the holiday period, 13,370 Thai and foreign tourists visited the park, entering through two main entry points – the Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine in Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, and Noen Hom in Mueang district, Nakhon Nayok.

Music teacher assaults 10 year old girl with ADHD in Nonthaburi school

A 50 year old father filed a complaint against a music teacher for physically abusing his 10 year old daughter, a fourth-grade student, in a school located in Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. The little girl was allegedly slapped and kicked, leaving a shoe print on the back of her shirt and suffering from physical pain.

Moo-ving miracle: Driver escapes unharmed after car ‘meets’ wandering cows in Phuket

A driver managed to walk away unscathed after his car collided with a group of wandering cows on Thepkrasattri Road in Phuket in the early hours of this morning. The driver, identified only as Bancha, was travelling in his white Toyota Veloce car around 4.30am when ten cows suddenly appeared out of nowhere and ran onto the road.

Pregnant woman injured by hot oil declines 4,000 baht aid, calls for more accountability

A pregnant 37 year old woman was severely burned by hot oil while selling French fries at a local football match in Rayong province. The organisers offered 4,000 baht as compensation but the victim, Suchada Phusawangporn, refused, calling for the culprit to take greater responsibility. Local authorities are investigating the incident.

The body of a teenage boy who had gone missing while swimming at Suan Son Beach in Rayong province has been found, floating approximately 2 kilometres from the scene of the incident. The teenager’s mother collapsed upon seeing her son’s body.

Newly engaged teen dies in tragic car accident, grief-stricken family mourns

A 19 year old man tragically died in a car accident after crashing into a tree just days after his engagement. The victim was driving back home from his fiancée’s house when he lost his life in the early hours of the incident.
