Hi Maria29,

Two options to Penang from Hatyai.

1. Take a direct taxi or air-con van from Hatyai to Penang.

Contact tour agencies in Hatyai...... quite a few in front of Oriental Hotel.

2. More exciting/relaxing. Take a air-con van, near Hatyai main market to

Danok/Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint. Cost per person 45baht.

The van leaves every 15 miniutes with 11 passengers. One hour journey.

Get down in Danok, Thailand, walk left to the Thai immigration and clear immigration.

Take a slow walk to your left, and your are in Malaysian territory. A number of Malaysian

taxis will be wating for you. Ask for the price first before you take one.

The Malaysian Immigration checkpoint is about a half km away from where you

are standing. The duty free complex is a short distance away to your right.

You can do your shoping if you want to. After that you will arrive at Malaysian immigration/customs.

Important advice: Do not carry any illegal drugs of any kind when visiting Malaysia.

It is a very serious offence. If arrested and found quilty....... the death penalty is mandatory.

Quite a number of foreigners have been caught, found quilty and sent to the gallows.

No jail terms for drugs traffickers. The death penalty is mandatory.

Have a pleasant trip. Mai mee pan ha ! Sawatdi krap !

Mini vans run from many travel agency sites in Hat Yai at about 200 baht per trip but they all use Sadao, not Padang Besar for border crossing AFAIK.

Share taxi service is primarily from coffee shop next to King's Hotel and they will make round trip direct to Thai Consulate and overnight to bring you back the next day (or at least that used to be the practice). Cost will be two or three times the van price but is faster and usually more pleasant. You can also charter for yourself if money is not a problem. But you need to leave early in the morning to make the noon closing of the Thai Consulate as you lose an hour in Malaysia.

The trip should run about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Does the thai counsalate really accept visa application only on morning?

and If I apply on morning, can I receive pasport on afternoon at same day?

by the way, if I bring 1 note computer into malysia, should I declare tax document?
I dont ever declare PC's cameras etc... I dont think I am in breach as you are usually allowed a couple of grand US for personal effects...

Yes only in the AM.. Of course the agents outside the swiss hotel will accept them until late at night for the next AM's batch.. This way you can have a night out and sleep in without worrying about getting up or dealing with the consulate.. 20R well spent in my book !!!
and If I apply on morning, can I receive pasport on afternoon at same day?

If I pay additional pay, can I receive passport at same day?

The agents can do this at an 80R service.. Its not a guarantee as it depends on how busy the office gets... If no success no fee.. I assume this option is available to walk in punters but dont knwo that for a fact.

Maria ...........use the book shop/money exchange outside the Swiss Hotel on Lebuh Chulia to take your passport to the Thai Consulate for you.....it is not worth the hassle to do it yourself. They are trustworthy several members of Thaivisa.com use them......mostly though lighten up a little and enjoy yourself while you are there . :o
