As a young boy, I was frequently taken to Pantomimes: a kind of musical show for the family in which men would often dress as flamboyant women. This experience didn't traumatize me, and didn't make me question my sexuality.

 

When I was young, the term was LGB - Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual. Now the acronym has grown to include many others, and to be honest, I think this is where the whole thing has gone wrong.

 

Pride events have been taking place around the world for decades, but it's only been recently, with the inclusion of trans and other 'non binary / gender fluid' that we've seen such a backlash.

 

The TQ+ community has a lot of extremists in the community. Anyone who disagrees with any small part of their demands is automatically transphobic/a hater of anyone who doesn't identify as cis. Rational debate becomes almost impossible, when the zealots and extremists on the opposing far-right jump in and claim that children are being groomed by this community. Non-binary & gender fluid folks are typically young, white and middle class who IMO, are only doing it to be cool. These idiots are doing more harm than good, by creating so many victims that there isn't any room left to care for the people who really need it. The language used when people are discussing this topic is disgraceful on both sides. No respect for anyone's point of view at all.

 

We need to find some common ground and look at it scientifically, respectfully and most important of all, honestly. Spiritual and religious nonsense should be put to one side.

I think it's time for me to exist this thread as I've said pretty much all I have to say on the matter:

 

-- I think Central's good intentioned idea of Kid's Pride was ill advised. 

 

-- But it was obviously about inclusiveness and acknowledging that LGBTQ people don't magically come into existence only in adulthood any more than straight people do. 

 

-- Central was obviously not promoting grooming or predation. To charge them with that is completely outrageous. 

 

-- Kids that feel "different from the rest" and they may feel that from very early ages deserve messages of support and inclusion from both societies and adults in authority. Without that such kids are at unusually high risk of depression and suicide.

Are there and kids that at some point do not feel “different from the rest”?

 

Can you link to a study that show the kids you describe are at higher risk for depression and suicide? If not, it’s just another popular lie.

The "funny" thing is that if a sexy girl would do the show instead of a man pretending to be a woman, then I am pretty sure the organizer of the event would be in big trouble. But with men in stockings: no problem. What a strange world.

I highlighted the exact comment I was responding to in my initial response but here goes again. A poster commented that "heteros don't have flamboyant sex festivals."  My response showed that they do. Nothing to do with the kids issue. Another poster then started going on about kindergarten.
