About 30 police officers, who were hired by a well-known YouTuber to perform a staged pursuit in a deserted building, may face disciplinary action for failing to get prior permission from their superiors.

The YouTuber, “My Mate Nate”, posted the 22-minute long clip on YouTube on June 17th, depicting the staged chase involving about 50 “police officers”. The clip attracted more than 1.5 million views and drew widespread criticism over the inappropriate use of serving officers in the scene.

Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, the national police chief, said that of some 50 men who participated, about 30 are serving police officers who may face disciplinary action if they did not seek prior permission from their superiors.

Agree. There is a show called black mirror and I feel an episode is coming where the Internet is simply turned off. I think the people who introduced this  www knew exactly what they were doing.

Indeed.

Sadder is that sensationalized tabloid items are considered to be newsworthy and important.

Moreso than wars in Sudan and Ukraine and lost submersibles 2 miles under the sea.

"some 50 men who participated, about 30 are serving police officers who may face disciplinary action if they did not seek prior permission from their superiors."

For the 20 are they superiors who don't have to have permission or what makes them exempt? I'd think just being in uniform engaged in a non-police activity would mean an automatic disclinary action regardless of rank.

I find the bigger issue is why the subject 50 officers even need what might be a paltry payment to in effect abuse their position in law enforcement. Might there be hidden police corruption?

So we're back up to "thirty".

Fifty, eight, thirty...another day, another number.

You'd think the police could count?

Yesterday the national police chief said he needed seven days to conduct an investigation.

I no issues with MMN. He didn't really do anything 'wrong'. He simply used the Royal Thai Police as actors in his video.

Yes, this video makes the Royal Thai Police look like a big joke, unprofessional and a laughing stock, but probably nothing we didn't know already.

If the RTP want to participate in YouTube videos they should establish rules, guidelines, payment, scheduling and reserve editorial approval.

The internet is a great tool, unfortunately social media and Youtube has been hijacked by freeloaders.

What's the world going to do when everyone is a Youtuber or influencer and no-one works anymore?

This is hilarious!

You have to hand it to the kid, he basically got fifty cops and extras to break the law, filmed it, took it viral, thrilled the kids, pissed off the old farts, embarrassed the force, outraged some crew cut T-Rex's and trousered a nice chunk of "influencer" change.

Whattaguy!

and trousered a nice chunk of “influencer” change

Which was, I would imagine, his primary goal: mo money, mo money, mo money!

Agreed.  Police are bored out of their skulls with nothing for 20 hours a day.  They are like shop assistants who follow a prospective customer about in packs knowing nothing about ANY of the products on sale.

I recommend one proactive item. Get police to escort prisoners into the streets for cleanup projects. Pay the prisoners and re introduce good will back into society. Haha. I can dream. What do city planners do all day?

There weren't 50 police officers, there were 50 "police officers" of which 30 were actual police officers.  Read the OP properly and you'd know.

No need to dream, that's happening already with prisoners clearing sewers and drains.

Great, but more can be done. Once every few months I see a lone person sweeping around the streets in Pattaya. The sewerage thing is a step forward but a lot more could be done. There doesn't seem much interest in community projects any more. People for people sort of thing. You get the odd parade and music festival I suppose. last one a group was giving away food. It made me think heart is still beating.

I certainly hope they do not get in trouble.

No one wants individual policeman to suffer any disciplinary procedures as a result of participating in this production. I assume they were just following orders. or the cash.

The world's worst ever analogy, perhaps.

Have you got a better one to describe the working practices of RTP?  It shouldn't be too hard. Give composing a try instead of merely carping.
