Popular Post webfact Posted June 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 23, 2023 The Immigration Bureau in Satun has demonstrated its commitment to upholding human rights by assisting a bedridden Indian woman with her visa extension process. The woman's son, Mr. Ali, sought help from the Satun Immigration Bureau after his 73-year-old mother, recovering from heart surgery, found herself with an expired visa and unable to leave the country. Lacking knowledge of Thai immigration regulations, the family reached out for support, reported Siam Rath. In response, Pol. Lt. Col. Phanupak Yanakitprayurati, Director of the Immigration Bureau in Satun Province, personally visited their residence to assess the situation. Recognizing the woman's medical condition and the need to respect her human rights, the Satun Immigration Bureau granted her permission to remain in Thailand for medical treatment by extending her visa until the necessary procedures were completed. Mr. Ali expressed gratitude to the Satun Immigration Bureau for their assistance in facilitating his mother's visa extension. He commended their commitment to ensuring convenience and respecting human rights in such circumstances. Pol. Lt. Col. Phanupak Yanakitprayurati emphasized that individuals with questions or concerns about immigration laws and regulations could rely on the Satun Immigration Bureau for accurate information and guidance. anchadian Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Good for her, but would others get preferential treatment who were unable to attend immigration to extend their visa/extension due to medical conditions?

Yes they would. Have a look on the 2nd page of a TM7. You will read 'APPLICANT MUST SUBMIT THE APPLICATION IN PERSON WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF HANDICAPPED PATIENTS OR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES'. My wife and I have already discussed such a situation with our IO at Sakon Nakhon and were told that they do have powers of discretion to enable my wife to arrange for an extension on my behalf. The wife of our (now deceased) German neighbour was able to do this after he had lost a leg due to diabetes. 1 2 1

chalawaan Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 The law says if you're widowed from a Thai national, without dependent children, and you cant find another B400,000 to put into a bank account, for a retirement visa, you're going home alone after that marriage visa expires. Nice and humane. 1 1

You are here by virtue of their annual grace, with no legal avenue to appeal if they decide its all ending tomorrow, and you're getting older each year, which could eventually make your forced repatriation catastrophic in many cases. Just remember that! 3 1

You have obviously been a very luck individual indeed. However there are many thousands that have not, as we see on ANF almost on a daily basis? 1

But you rarely hear from the many thousands of foreigners who, like @Artisi and myself never have any reason to moan about the service they receive from Immigration. We tend to just get on with our lives. 2

scorecard Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Why is this news? It should be a standard part of every working day. Minds like little children with no ability to see, develop big picture policies and actions. 1

Any given experience with Immigration will be determined by the district, the office, the time, the day, the mood of office, the mood of an individual IO..... in other words, immigration law and its application are not uniform across Thailand at any given time or place.

A very refreshing change and worthy of comment.

Nice and humane. If one is married here and uses the 400k in the bank method, one only needs 33.33k per month income to switch to a retirement extension using the combination method. So what's the problem? Surely nobody lives on less than 33k per month here.
