webfact
A Thai man tragically died after cutting off his penis with a grass strimmer at a forest park in the Isaan province of Nong Bua Lamphu. The strimmer blade snapped and accidentally sliced his penis and groin area causing a severe loss of blood. Officers from Mueang Nong Bua Lamphu Police Station dashed to the forest park yesterday, June 28, and discovered the lifeless body of 39 year old Praditsin Chuypad. Praditsin’s pants and legs were soaked in blood. Nearby the body a strimmer was located next to a broken metal cutting blade. The rescue team then removed Praditsin’s pants to assess the cause of his demise. Praditsin’s genitals were reported to be cut. A deep wound was also discovered in his left groin. The severity of the injury had affected his arteries, leading to significant blood loss and his death. The police later discovered a part of the breaking blade which was covered with blood. They predicted that the blade was broken after it directly hit Praditsin. KhunBENQ
Looks suspicious. Did he really fix the grinding wheel to the trimmer trying to sharpen the blade???!!! Not quite safety at workplace. I wondered how a trimmer blade could hit his groin. I always fear for my foot/toes but not that up. For the smaller tasks I use a nylon string head. Would hurt but not kill me. Edited June 29, 2023 by KhunBENQ 2

That's NOT a trimmer blade. It's a grinding wheel. Horrendous idea to misuse it this way, There is a reason why grinders are among the most dangerous (DIY) devices. The trimmer blade lies on the ground unharmed. Before a trimmer blade breaks you need trying to cut the power pole. bdenner
@ khun BENQ:- I use this type of machine regularly (only with a nylon cord) but see the locales use them all the time from cutting grass to heavy timber. I tend to agree with your assessment!

Metal trimmer blades are thick and do not break off.

Naronsak said he warned Praditsin several times about using metal cutting blades but his warnings were ignored. PETERTHEEATER
Note also that Thai workers use angle grinders with missing blade guards. Missing because they have been deliberately removed and lost. 1

steve73
Looks like he fitted a cutting disc to his strimmer perhaps to sharpen the metal blade....? Cutting discs are notoriously fragile and easy to shatter from "grinding" with them too hard rather than cutting, or if the fitting is incorrectly sized for the hole and they become unbalanced.. I've seen one fail in a proper cutting tool where the fitting was too small for the hole, but it at least did have the guard fitted so no damage beyond the tool. Grinding discs are usually thicker and more robust for use at an angle, but can still shatter if unbalanced, not fitted correctly, or too much pressure applied. Poor guy, but a good reminder to others about the dangers of tools.... if they'll listen..!

It is quite common practice to fit stones similar to below and use the strimmer engine to turn the stones while holding the blade. In this case he used the wrong kind of attachment (cutting disk). The rpm limit is probably OK but they don't take much sideways force.
