Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
FWIW I think an AVERAGE spend of 65k per month across all long stay visa holders is far too high. -

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
Calm down! The point is that Thailand is constantly going through these periods of change where property doesn't sell, tourists don't come blah blah blah. I've lived here full time for over 21 years and part time for almost thirty, that change is a feature of the landscape and the country somehow, always manages to come out better. -

Latest carmaker to scale back its EV ambitions amid slowing sales
The subsidies are not an easy solution and hope they go away. Usually the only beneficiary is the manufacturer that can raise prices because of demand. The buyers in the end that optimistically took advantage of the incentives get screwed. Many example of failed subsidies/incentives in the green arena. Just look at how expensive it is to install solar in California. I digress - not a fan of subsidies. As for EV sales growth. I don't own an EV but envision a perfect match for my situation. As more people get solar and battery tech improves, I think by 2030-2040 half of the passenger cars will be EVs. Trucks, semis, tankers - no idea. -

Trump: “There Will Be No Third Debate!”
I don't know. I was kind of liking the Trump years, though not the mean tweets. The Biden/Harris years, not so much. It's going to take decades and cost $trillions to fix the damage from rampant unvetted immigration and the Green New Deal. And that's if the Biden term Russian military exercise and Iran shenanigans don't go nuclear. There's no fixing that damage. -

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
Uh, sure. The law on remittances was passed long ago, it hasn't changed. The "interpretation" (how it is enforced) has. The change went into effect January 1st for tax year 2024. You will see the results of the change of interpretation/enforcement early in 2025 when expats begin filing their 2024 taxes. Why would you expect to see 'enforcement' now, before tax filing/payment is due? The only exception to the above I can think of is anyone filing half-year 2024 tax returns. -

Any advantages to retirement over marriage visa?
He can do that for second extension showing 12 months of monthly transfers using the 65k. That would be a modest amount for himself and wife to live on. As you point out avoids locking up funds in bank (useless)
