Escalator Malfunction Creates Scare at Major Mall

On July 11th, an incident caused alarm among shoppers at a renowned department store. An escalator malfunction in the middle of the busy evening hours led to a sudden disruption.

 

Facebook user Natnathakrit Khajorndechasak shared a post with a photograph of the incident, captioning it, "One must always be vigilant.

 

I was in the middle of a conversation with a customer when it happened right before my eyes. Thank goodness a man managed to leap off in time. It was utterly terrifying."

 

This incident underscores the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for such heavy machinery, especially in public spaces frequented by masses, reported Siam Rath.

Escalator Failure in Prominent Bang Na Mall Revives Don Mueang Airport Memories

On July 11th, around 5 p.m., a renowned shopping mall in the Bang Na district experienced a frightening escalator malfunction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident ominously echoed the infamous travelator incident at Don Mueang Airport.

 

A witness at the scene when the escalator failed recounted the event over the phone, describing a chilling moment when a male shopper was using the escalator, reported Siam Rath.

As he stepped over, a loud, jarring noise echoed through the mall. Onlookers then discovered the escalator was malfunctioning.

 

Shortly after the incident, mall authorities cordoned off the area and prohibited any form of photography. Barriers were set up to prevent usage of the defective escalator. Repairs and safety inspections will follow promptly to ensure the future safety of customers.

Another escalator incident occurred in Bangkok, this time at a shopping mall in the Bang Na district of Samut Prakarn province. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

 

A Thai man, Nathakrit Khajorndechasak, who works at a mobile phone shop in the shopping mall, shared a video and a picture of the incident on Facebook.

 

He said…

“Must be awake and aware all the time. I was talking to my customer, and it happened right in front of me. It was lucky that a man who was on the escalator managed to jump to safety. So scary.”

The video showed some people gathered to witness the incident and took pictures of the broken escalator. The picture featured the escalator step treads upturned.

Nathakrit later gave an interview with ThaiRath about the incident. He explained that it occurred at about 4.50pm yesterday, July 11. While he was talking to a customer, he heard distinctive banging noises emanating from the escalator, about three to four times. He searched for the origin of the noise and saw a man jump off the escalator to safety and avoided hurting himself.

The most hilarious thing to me about this article is the careful avoidance of saying where it happened! hahahahaha What a joke. These ultra sensitive libel/slander laws make common-sense life unlivable. Just so stupid....
You'd almost think that they'd like to be mentioned because it appears that they handled it promptly and nobody got hurt, so they could tout their security for doing such a great job. Sure, it broke... stuff happens, things break, can't prevent everything. They could show off their pristine maintenance records.... But nooooo gotta cordon things off and don't let anyone take pictures!? hahaha too late! And people from above could take pictures anyway. This law has made everyone's thinking turn upside down and start doing irrational things. That's what getting woke does to you. Turn everything into a victim mentality.....

To late Bro. This just reminds me of a Thai Air, airplane that skidded of a runway, yonks ago and they dashed out to paint the logo out in black paint. Thainess.

It's not only happening in Thailand of course, saw an escalator that had started to "eat itself" in Phnom Penh but it will keep the spotlight on the DMK incident that the airport bosses wish would just disappear.

 

At least nobody got hurt here.

 

The staff prevented photo taking move is just dumb though.

Don't know what the actual service or maintenance inspections cover on these escalators. But in cases like these were injury can easily occur, you would expect the manufacturers or at least a local representative of the manufacturer to get involved and state clearly to the health & safety just exactly what is at fault, instead of the usual maintenance speculation etc.

Maintenance costs a lot more than a few thousand Baht "sorry money"... hence little to no maintenance is done here.

I was just doing some shopping in Mega Home in Pattaya and they have these travellators to get up and down to the first floor where most of the interesting stuff is. I noticed a couple of employees pushing a trolley loaded with heavy tiles, even with wheels they were having difficulty pushing it onto the escalator. I wonder if these machines are specifically designed for such heavy loads, which are far more than the average person with a bag of shopping or a suitcase? If not, then they're just an accident waiting to happen, I think I'll take the lift in future, lol.

As much as I love this country, preventive maintenance is just not in their DNA. One sees it in all manner of construction, road building, beautification projects, you name it. Things start out looking great then aren’t taken care of and decay, sometimes rapidly. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
