Pheu Thai “knows” there will be strong backlash should it align with former government parties

The Pheu Thai Party leadership knows that the party would face significant backlash and possibly lose votes should it align itself with former government parties including Palang Pracharat and Bhumjai Thai, a PT parliamentarian told Thai Enquirer on Monday.

 

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Thai Enquirer that no decision has yet been made and that the party would “give every opportunity” to move forward with the current pro-democracy coalition of parties.

 

“But we cannot be in this deadlock forever and eventually someone will have to sacrifice or compromise to move the country forward,” the MP said by phone.

True colors of Pheu Thai, as wrote already many times, they are bad losers and had hoped they would win the elections with a landslide. But it was Move Forward that was the winner. First they have tried to get the house speaker, and when that failed, now they are going for PM, even without Move Forward, instead of keep steady on the 8 party coalition to end the army governing the land. That would be the greatest win. But no the greed for power will put the largest party in the oppostion and keep the country back from going forward, as they say compromising and sacrificing, but not by us but the others, and we will go with the honors

Too late according to my wife an her family. People in Isaan are already burning any pictures they may have had of Thaksin.

It will be interesting to see which emerges as the more powerful "force".

Loyalty to Thaksin - which has proved to be durable and sustained, if largely geographically and class based; or a general detesting and desire to reform the political/military ruling establishment - which appears to have it's roots in the younger generation, and to be less geographical and class centred.

Are you blaming the possibility of the failed MFP coalition on PTP and not the junta for the controversial senate appointees? You seem diverting the blame away from the junta.

As many PT supporters have pointed out to the leadership on the internet.

It's very simple. Stick with MF, reject the junta parties as promised. If that means the senators reject PT's PM choice, go into Opposition and let the junta parties run a minority government which will fail.

The blame will fall entirely on the senators for refusing to accept Pita or PT candidates 

But PT's greed for power and Thaksin's desire to return at any cost will cost the party many votes.

Many Pheu Thai supporters posted this photo of Natawut Saikeua, a prominent former red shirt and member of Pheu Thai, standing in front of the coffins of red shirts killed in the crackdown.

He wrote yesterday about how 'complicated' and difficult the current situation is for PT.

Many PT supporters asked him what the red shirts had died for if the party was going to join with the junta backed parties.

Shame on you, Natawut. At least Jatuporn had the sense to get out of PT when he realised Thaksin didn't possess a single democratic bone in his body.

A difficult decision and PTP will exhaust all negotiations with MPs and senators before making a conclusion with the coalition parties tomorrow. The coalition will issue a joint announcement. All done in a amicable and transparent process. Pita understand the legal perils for him, executives and the party which likely yo be banned and dissolved. If PTP was to turn their back on MFP, there will be some discontent with their supporters but their base are still loyal. Red Shirts are not the base and they are a subdued force. Stay as an opposition block in Parliament is not a political solution when you have the chance of forming the government. A non functioning legislature body is not a political solution. The economy will be disastrous and no sensible politicians will want that. PTP have quite similar policies as MFP and will try implement them. They have 4 years to prove to the voters that they are on the same page as MFP in terms of reforms.

You've answered your own question there buddy. Align with MFP or your sacrifice will be to face complete obliteration of Phue-Thai. The party would never recover from aligning with the Junta. It would be Game Over.

No surely not... The junta and its senators are the first to blame, but be fair already talking about compromising is too early now... first let them vote the first time on this coalition before talking about give up and compromise for the benefit

They have already 2 votes for this coalition , one by motion the other by proxy. On both occasions the coalition unsuccessfull.

Exactly. The junta appointed senators created the mess by rejecting Pita whose party gained the most votes, three and a half million more than Pheu Thai.

The Junta's first priority was to get rid of the immediate threat, Pita and Move Forward. They have got rid of the threat, now they can step back a bit, after all, they remain in place as - what do they call themselves - an "interim government". They have time now, first to eliminate Pita and MFP from the political landscape ( job for the courts) and then to hook Pheu Thai and play them on the line until they get what they want - a significant (and in fact controlling presence) in whatever government emerges. If that damages Pheu Thai long term support better still. If Thaksin returns, well make it clear that one step out of line and it is striped suntan time - oh and bring your own socks. Mind you, at his (Thaksin's) age there is always a risk of sudden blood disorders!

 

Be under no misapprehensions, they intend to stay, to "keep peace, stability and order". Which should bring a glow of pride and moist underpants to some of the enthusiast's for the"smack of firm government" brigade on this forum!

When indeed. I said before the elections that the country is on the brink of revolution. The precipice is coming ever closer. Another coup will not be tolerated by the people and PT being in bed with military may well bring it on. PT will be hated as much as the military for being traitors to their support base who HATE the military junta. PT should not nominate anyone for PM and stay with the coalition if they want to survive. Let the minority royalist/military/conservative parties put in a PM in an unworkable parliament.
