The caretaker Cabinet on Tues approves an increase of entrance fees for foreigners visiting Thailand's 72 historical sites and museums to up to 50 baht per person. The rationale was the fees have not been raised for 15 years. Fees for Thai national will remain the same

The locals should get it cheaper, happens in Las Vegas too.

 

Our local Zoo has differential pricing as locals subsidise the zoo in their rates.

The biggest change is for New Zealanders living outside of Auckland who will now pay the same price as international visitors with ticket prices jumping from the current $24 to $35/adult and $20/child 

Aucklanders who purchase tickets on the day of their visit will now pay $29/adult and $16.50/child

But do they charge someone living locally extra just because they are foreign, even if they have lived locally for years?

Exactly.  Or charge you extra based on your skin color as "farang" means person from European decent.
Show me one Western country where the foreign spouse of a citizen is charged extra based on their ethnicity and nationality, especially if like myself, they have lived in-country for 16 years and married for well over 15. 

There are none.  Westerners, especially those on the Left would scream 'racism' at loud as they can.  And legitimately.  I would too.

How is this discrimination even considered moral by any civilized, modern standards?

but NZ govt is trying to bring in Co Government which will effectively means one race will be getting advantages and prices over all others.

I don't go to these places anymore since I've seen them all already but if I did want to visit I would get the wife to sneak me in in a pram disguised as a baby Somchai.. Half the adult Thai price.

Just a little info: If you are living in Thailand and have a pink ID or a Driving License, most places give you same price like Thais.

1.  No, I am not complaining.  Although I have yet to see a valid argument as to why it is not unfair.  Merely pointing out that, in many Countries where discounts are given to locals, those discounts are generally given to ALL locals, not just the locals born in the country.

2.  I fully agree that I don't set the rules.  Xenophobes set the rules.  Hence I choose to pay the extra "foreigner" fee in some cases if I actually want to see the place/exhibit or whatever.  The actual price difference is normally negligible in financial terms but I do question the "correctness" of it.  I don't think it is right to charge extra for people who live locally but charging extra for tourists is very widespread globally and discounts for locals is very common.  And I'm not a visitor.  I live here and I don't want to leave and go home.

3.  "most places" is not quite true in my honest opinion.  My pink card/yellow book/driving licence does sometimes get me the "locals" discount at commercial, private enterprises.  But I have never had a discount at government run places.

You seem to be of the opinion that non-Thais should just put-up and shut-up if they disagree with what happens here.  I don't agree with that.  Anyone should feel free to express an opinion as to what is right or wrong, especially on a forum such as this.

If I don't like the pricing of any establishment, it's very simple, I don't enter.  No need for me to become bitter, complain, jaded, life is too short to worry about things I can not change.

Just say NO! We must absolutely refuse to pay these jacked up fees. If no foreigners went to these parks, maybe the goons would rethink their idiotic and racist policies.

On a certain level, I understand their desire to charge more to foreign tourists. But, there should be a policy for ex-pats living here. We support the nation on countless levels. So a drivers license, or a pink card should be all that is required, to show we are residents, not tourists. Asking us to pay these prices is dumb and dumber. Not to mention arrogant, and deeply offensive.

They all seem to forget we all all get free visa on arrival.

 

But if a Thai wants to come to our country they have to pay merely to apply in person in Bangkok for a visa that is often rejected. Costing thousands of baht including travel etc, and mountains of paperwork.

 

I dont hear them crying the race card about that.

But 50 baht to go to a UNESCO world heritage site. It is a bargain mate.

If you want to take your little Thai teeruk there you are looking at thousands of dollars more than 100,000 baht.

If you want to take your larger English darling there it is free.

No.  But for any expat planning to move here or retire here?

They should know what to expect and then plan accordingly.  That's why we comment on the discriminatory practices.  Not for us?  We know......but for those reading these forums and considering moving to Thailand to work or retire.  Forwarded in forearmed.

Based on what I know today?  I doubt I'd be living here had I known it 16 years ago.  I would have visited, but not gotten involved with a female Thai citizen no less marrying one, and moved on to a country that isn't overtly racist and discriminatory toward individuals who are not their own ethnicity and nationality.  There are countries like that.  Where foreigners are encouraged to settle and marry into the native population.  Thailand isn't one of those countries!  Just saying.    It's da*m sad imho.
