webfact
Deaths in fireworks explosion climb to 12 with 10 survivors still in hospital The death toll in the fireworks warehouse explosion and fire, in Su-ngai Kolok district of Thailand’s southernmost province of Narathiwat, increased to 12 today (Sunday). Ten of the survivors are still in hospital, while 98 others have been discharged, according to Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, the permanent secretary of public health. Of the 10 still in hospital, six are female, two male and two are children. They have injuries to their faces, heads and bodies. Dr. Opart said that he has ordered medical staff from 13 districts to be sent to Su-ngai Kolok district hospital to provide psychiatric support to people traumatised by the incident and others who may develop respiratory and digestive symptoms or irritations of the skin and eyes, as a result of exposure to chemicals released in the explosion and subsequent fire. Popular Post webfact
Explosion at firework warehouse possibly caused by welding sparks The explosion at a warehouse storing fireworks, in Sungai-Kolok district of Narathiwat province yesterday (Saturday), was probably caused by sparks from welding, as a mechanic was trying to fix a shelf inside the building, according to the Narathiwat governor, Sanan Pongaksorn. The governor said that the priority now is to survey the damage in the neighbourhood, to see exactly how many households and how many people have been harmed. Most of the injured have already been released from hospital, with nine staying overnight and one in a critical condition. The governor said there are no other firework warehouses in the district of which officials are aware and the one where the accident occurred had not yet been authorized for use as a warehouse as it was newly built. NemoH
There are no safety standards in Thailand -- safety health and Environment (SHE) all does not exists. It is too costly to maintain to maintain the SHE standards and the owners don't care. So we all have to watch the surrounding areas of our houses in Thailand. This is the main reason for all the China owned factories to shift to Chiang Mai in the recent years after the Chinese authorities started to clamp down on factory standards. The shift of factories contributed to the pollution in Chiang Mai. The recent respite from pollution is probably because of the economic situation of China and factories production are down due to the bad world economies.
